The episode received much media attention, as it focuses on the issue of gay marriage. Patty is to marry another woman; but it is not to be as 'she' turns out to be a man pretending to be a woman so he could play on the women's golf tour. The episode even led bookmakers (in real life) to set odds against which character would be outed.

Bart ends up at fat camp after suffering a heart attack, but he sneaks food in there too. In order to pay for fat camp, Homer and Marge take in some German tourists. Homer performs his version of "99 Luftballoons" for them in a hilarious scene.

Marge joins the quest to save the manatees after she leaves Homer following an argument. But in the end, she decides that her home life is more important, looking after the "most endangered species of all: a devoted husband".

After a protest involving many townspeople, the stamp museum is moved to the cemetery, and the cemetery is moved next door to the Simpsons. Lisa has trouble sleeping as her room overlooks it. But in the end she spends a night there and overcomes her fear.

Homer holds a 'pox party' where he charges $15 entry, the idea being that everyone is exposed to the chicken pox as a child to produce immunity in later life (when it can get very nasty).
