Comic Book Guy creates a comic called "Everydayman" and it becomes a big hit when Bart and Milhouse convince him to publish it. Homer gets himself into great shape to play the part, but of course he puts all that weight back on when his personal trainer leaves him.

Bart is torn up with the guilt of getting Mrs K fired and eventually confesses; but it ends up being Zachary who gets himself fired by (you guessed it) drinking on the job!

The Ultimate Punch, Kick and Choke Championships (UPKCCs) take an interesting twist when Marge enters after seeing Bart involved and wanting to prove a point to him that it's too dangerous. The announcer introduces Marge as a "Mom we'd like to fight" and she ends up winning! But her speech denouncing the sport following her victory falls on deaf ears because the fans have already left to watch a parking lot fight.

A new Krusty Burger treat made from cannibal cows causes the town to be overrun by zombies...28 days after the launch of the burger (in a parody of the movie, "28 Days Later").

Homer also becomes Carl's assistant in this episode, and becomes miserable when Carl forces him to go to Paris for an indefinite period of time. Marge and Ned almost kiss in this episode before Marge realises what a mistake that would be.

On the contrary, Skinner admits that there was one better (or worse, depending on your perspective). The prankster is named Andy Hamilton, and Bart tracks him down in an attempt to learn his secrets. But it turns out Andy is still pulling pranks at the age of 19 and hasn't grown up.

Homer befriends some hillbillies and learns how to make, and taste, moonshine. The hillbillies, thinking they are being caught, tip it into the river and turn half the town blind. The town mistake this for a witches' spell and almost send the Wiccans Lisa befriends to a death by dunking.

Bart eventually visits an orphanage after realising that his parents are unlikely to provide a brother for him. He is turned away but is followed home by a little boy, Charlie, who befriends him. But Bart learns that brotherhood comes with responsibility after taking Charlie to a scary movie. Charlie eventually gets adopted by a new family and gets six sisters.

Grampa befriends Marshall, a local journalist who writes for the Springfield Shopper, and tells him a story about the time he tamed a shark. Homer is initially jealous, but later saves Grampa's life when he works out that Marshall is trying to win a Pulitzer Prize by orchestrating Grampa's death so he can write about it.

Predictably, Princess Penelope is a big hit with Lisa, but Bart and Milhouse can't stand the new character. The plot thickens when Krusty and Penelope fall in love. Anne Hathaway played the voice of Penelope in this episode and won an Emmy for her performance.

After many close calls in previous seasons, Homer finally becomes a millionaire. It's never that simple of course: he buys the ticket when Marge is waiting for him, so he decides not to tell her about it and hides the money. He and Bart squander it and there is none left by the time Marge finds out. In her usual style, she doesn't mind at all!

We find out in this episode that Marge is left-handed, but that she's always pretended to be a right-hander so she wasn't different. When she changes to use her left hand in the curling final, she takes the team to victory. This episode also has an amusing sub-plot involving Lisa's addiction to Olympic pin collecting.

Eliza Simpson, according to the diary she finds in the attic, helped a young slave girl escape to Canada. Lisa is firstly disappointed with her family's slave-owner history, but her discovery of Eliza's story cheers her up.

The damaged building is almost destroyed by the train, until Homer stops Bart at the last second. However, the school still crumbles when a flagpole collapses (in true "Simpsons" ironic style). This episode is notable for being the first time that Bart is grounded and the punishment sticks.

Mrs Obama appears on Lisa's blog as FLOTUS1 (which is later revealed to be stand for First Lady of the United States 1). She drops by to tell Lisa and her classmates that it's OK to be smart and show it. This follows from the unprecedented occurrence of Lisa getting an F!

The Simpsons go along to Jerusalem as part of Reverend Lovejoy's bible group. Homer doesn't appreciate the trip's sites and ends up spending time in the hotel breakfast bar, much to Ned's frustration. But after drinking from the Dead Sea, Homer receives some enlightenment after all, and ends up preaching in the streets.

In a rare event, Burns is unable to use his money to get out of jail. Smithers is left in charge of the power plant, and is at first a kind boss. But when he hears Homer, Lenny and Carl teasing him, he becomes a tyrannical boss and everyone is suddenly wanting Burns back. So they break him out of prison.

Homer befriends Wiggum while doing community service work. In a very funny scene, they take a helicopter to Ned's house and pretend to be the voice of God, telling Ned to do a range of things (including shaving!).
