"The Last of Us" S1:E5 "Endure and Survive" Quiz

Answer: Sam is deaf.

The episode begins showing the government (FEDRA) of a ruined Kansas City being overtaken by insurgents. The insurgents now in charge brutally dispose of those previously in charge and torture their prisoners. Eleven days later, Henry and Sam are in hiding because the new government run by Kathleen is after them.

Henry is very protective of his younger brother Sam who is deaf. Henry and Sam communicate via sign language and are hiding in the upper floor of an abandoned building.

Answer: They are running out of food.

When Henry, Sam and Dr. Edelstein go into hiding on the day FEDRA is overthrown, Henry estimates that if they ration they have 11 days worth of food. This included twenty cans and three pounds of beef jerky. On day 11, Dr. Edelstein goes out to try and get more food. Unfortunately, Dr. Edelstein is captured by the insurgents in power and is tortured and eventually shot by Kathleen.

Answer: Henry gave up Kathleen's brother Michael to FEDRA.

Kathleen's brother, Michael, was the leader of the Kansas City insurgency prior to the overthrow of FEDRA. In order to get leukemia medicine for his brother Sam, Henry sells out Michael to FEDRA and Michael ends up dying. The last time Kathleen sees Michael he tells her to forgive Henry because they would have done the same thing to save a family member. Kathleen is not so forgiving and she makes it her mission to get Henry in spite of her peers telling her to stop.

Answer: Draw superheroes

Both Sam and Ellie read "Savage Starlight" comic books and Sam gets his inspiration from these stories to draw superheroes when he is in hiding. Sam is eight years old and he pins the drawings that he made around the room that they are in. Joel and Ellie find these drawings and eventually they unite with Henry and Sam and plan how to escape the city.

Answer: Underground maintenance tunnels

Henry tells Joel and Ellie that the best way to get out of Kansas City is via underground maintenance tunnels. Joel then asks Henry where all of the infected are because he hadn't seen any and the area wasn't quarantined like Boston was. Henry explains that fifteen years prior FEDRA drove all of the infected underground. Even so, Henry believes that they can travel through the tunnels and come up past the insurgency controlled area and hopefully not come across any infected.

Answer: Soccer ball

After they share their comic book collection, Ellie and Sam kick a soccer ball around. On one of the walls a net had been drawn to mimic a goalpost. Joel thinks that they are wasting time but Henry convinces him that Ellie and Sam need time to relax before the difficult part of their escape begins.

Answer: Sniper rifle

After the group passes through the underground maintenance tunnels, they come across a street with cars blocking the road. While walking down the street, Joel and his group start to get shot at by a sniper. Joel comments to them that the sniper is not a good shot and he is going to try and go into the building to disarm the sniper.

When Joel gets up there, he sees that the sniper is an old man that doesn't have good aim. Joel tells the man that he will let him live if he walks away but the man tries to get his gun so Joel shoots him. Soon after Kathleen's people and a horde of infected are in the area so Joel has to use the sniper rifle.

Answer: Perry

Perry is the second-in-command to Kathleen and he is in charge of the weapons and tactical strategy of the Kansas City insurgency. The infected of Kansas City had been pushed underground years prior, but in their pursuit of Joel's group, a truck crashed and created an opening in the ground.

This prompted a swarm of infected that included a large Bloater to come above ground. When Perry sees the Bloater he tells Kathleen to run. Perry tries to subdue the Bloater with gunfire but the Bloater easily gets to him and rips his head from his body.

Answer: Ellie tries to heal Sam with her blood.

In the scene, Sam and Ellie communicate with a magic slate notepad that they can write on and then erase to be able to write again. Sam asks Ellie if you are still the same person inside when you are infected. He then shows Ellie the bite on his leg. Ellie tells Sam that her blood is like medicine and she cuts her hand and then puts her blood on Sam's bite in the hopes that it will stop the fungal infection from spreading.

Unfortunately, the next morning Ellie wakes up to find that Sam is an infected.

Answer: Henry shoots Sam and then himself.

The scene at the motel goes from hopeful to tragic quickly. Joel and Henry seemingly are becoming friends just as Ellie and Sam did. However, when Ellie's blood does not cure Sam, she has to run out with an infected Sam chasing her. Knowing that his brother is now an infected, Henry shoots Sam. Joel then tells Henry to give him his gun but Henry ends up pointing the gun on himself.

At the end of the episode Joel and Ellie bury Henry and Sam.
