Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following "Walking Dead" characters does NOT appear in season one of "Dead City"?

Answer: Daryl

"Dead City" features Maggie and Negan as Maggie searches for her kidnapped son Hershel, who also makes an appearance in the show. Daryl Dixon is not a character in the show, though he does have his own eponymous spin-off.
2. Where does season one of "Dead City" take place?

Answer: New York City

"Dead City" is set primarily in New York City, in particular in Manhattan. It is the fifth series in "The Walking Dead" franchise and the first to serve as a sequel to the original series.
3. In "Dead City," Perlie Armstrong is a marshal for what federation?

Answer: New Babylon

Perlie is played by Gaius Charles, who starred as Smash Williams in the popular television series "Friday Night Lights." The New Babylon Federation is a network of survivor communities in New York. Perlie's job as a marshal is to hunt down Negan for the crime of murder.

The other choices come from dystopian books by Samuel R. Delhany (Dhalgren), George Orwell (Oceania), and Margaret Atwood (Gilead).
4. Judging by his name, where can we assume the main villain of season one of "Dead City" was born?

Answer: Croatia

"The Croat" (so-called because of his origin) is a former member of the Saviors who was so sadistic that even Negan wanted to be rid of him. The Croat kidnaps Hershel. He is played by Zeljko Ivanek.
5. What's unusual about Ginny in "Dead City"?

Answer: She's selectively mute

When the audience first meets Ginny, she's in the care of Negan. After the death and loss of her father, she coped by becoming a selective mute and speaks to no one. As it turns out, the very man who is caring for her - Negan - is wanted for killing her father, though she doesn't know that.
6. Who is the primary antagonist group in season one of "Dead City"?

Answer: The Burazi

The Burazi (or "Brothers") are a group of raiders and extortions led by the Croat. Their camp is located in Madison Square Garden.

Negan was a member of The Saviors in the original "Walking Dead" series. The Guerriers appear in the "Daryl Dixon" "Walking Dead" spin-off, and the Fireflies feature in the HBO apocalyptic drama "The Last of US."
7. What secondary villain in "Dead City" used to be a theater actress?

Answer: The Dama

In Spanish, "dama" can be used to refer to a leading lady in the theater. Dama is also a Sanskrit word that means "punishment," "self-control," or "subduing," which are good words to describe the Dama's personality. She is an ally of the Croat. She is played by Lisa Emery who is known for playing Darlene Snell in "Ozark."
8. Which of the following is NOT a member of the Tribespeople in season one of "Dead City"?

Answer: Father Gabriel

The Tribespeople are a post-apocalyptic group who survive the Burazi by living a nomadic life in Manhattan. They are led by Tommaso and his girlfriend Amaia. Luther is one of their members, who, in a fight with Negan, falls headfirst onto a pipe, which (with some assistance from a push from Negan) leads to his death.

Father Gabriel was a character in the original "Walking Dead" series and a part of Rick's group.
9. What former member of the Saviors appears in a flash back scene in season one of "Dead City"?

Answer: Simon

In the flashback scene, Simon calls the Croat a "Slavic, psychopathic nutjob," high criticism indeed coming from one of the most vicious members of the Saviors, who later wiped out all of the men at Oceanside and every member of the Scavengers but one.

Merle Dixon was never a member of the Saviors, though Dwight and Jed both were.
10. How many episodes were in season one of "Dead City"?

Answer: 6

"Dead City" was originally titled "Isle of the Dead" in production in 2022, but a few months later, the name was changed to "Dead City." The show premiered on June 18, 2023 on AMC in the United States. The short season contained only six episodes.
