1. In the very first NHL Amateur Entry Draft, the Montreal Canadiens made the first selection ever from the St. Michael's Juveniles. Which player did they choose?
From Quiz NHL Draft: Boom and Bust
Answer:
Garry Monahan
Garry Monahan went on to have a journeyman career in the NHL scoring 285 points in 748 regular season games playing for Montreal, Detroit, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver. Overall, he was a bust as the first choice ever. In 1969, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in a deal that saw 1963 second choice overall, Pete Mahovlich, come to Montreal. The Little M went on to win four Stanley Cups with the Habs and score 773 points in 884 regular season games. Monahan never sipped champagne from the Cup. McKechnie and Meehan were also chosen in the 1963 draft both by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and went on to have solid NHL careers.
