Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My original name was "Short-haired Skye Terrier." Coming from Scotland, I love to explore and dig. You might have seen my famous ancestor, Terry, as "Toto" in the "Wizard of Oz."
2. I have won more American Kennel Club Earthdog competitions than any other breed. I'm very friendly and good with children. My double coat of hair makes me weather resistant. You might have seen a cousin of mine in "There's Something About Mary."
3. I have very unique ears. You might say they are exceptionally hairy! On the other hand, I guess my entire body has long, soft hair. My ears were designed to protect me from other animals and from trees and other brush while on the hunt. I was a favorite breed of Queen Victoria.
4. No, I'm not a miniature Airedale! Even though I share the same tan and black color scheme, I'm a separate breed. My great-grandfather, Charlie, was the dog in the white house when JFK was president.
5. Stubborn and courageous, I typically don't get along well with other dogs. I have a very short coat, and I'm very muscular. I have a distinct nose and a Terrier cousin that is taller than I am.
6. I have a very recognizable silhouette; as such, I'm used on clothing or artwork a lot. I usually have almond-shaped eyes and erect ears. I've lived at the White House more often than any other dog!
7. I'm one of the most popular Terriers in the USA. Often called by another name, my ancestors were from England. Did you see my brother, Moose, on TV's "Frasier?"
8. At birth, I am black in color, but through a process known as "clearing" I change colors by the time I'm 18 months old. I am a native of Ireland and usually have a curly, or wavy, coat.
9. My ancestors are from Wales, and they were used to hunt fox and badger. I should be completely white in color; or I may have lemon or tan spots on my head and ears.
10. I'm one of the smallest Terriers, but fearless and loyal. I am not an aggressive dog but I'm very good at going after vermin. My ears are called "drop ears" and that's what distinguishes me from a very similar breed of Terrier.
