Answer: Hocus Pocus

Produced by Disney, "Hocus Pocus" became a cult classic over the years thanks in part to the darkly humorous performances of the three witches, brought back to life by the lighting of the black flame candle in a Salem Museum, formerly their house. What followed was a harrowing Halloween involving a talking cat, a Frankenstein-zombie creature named Billy, a hypnotic trance at a dance, and a race to sunrise. Bette Midler's character was such a hit with fans that she started wearing the costume to perform her rendition of "I've Put a Spell On You" at live shows.

Answer: Harry Potter

Played by Helena Bonham-Carter in the "Harry Potter" film series, Bellatrix Lestrange is known for her wicked ways as an evil witch in the later installments, serving under the main antagonist, Lord Voldemort. Her horrible deeds throughout the series culminates in a final battle against several of the main characters in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" when she's finally killed by Molly Weasley.

"American Horror Story: Coven", airing in 2013, took place almost entirely in New Orleans, Louisiana and chronicled a dying coven's rivalry with the Voodoo witches as led by Marie Laveau (played by Angela Bassett) and their interaction with historical murderess Delphine LaLaurie (played by Kathy Bates).

The season was well-received though considered campier than the earlier storylines (in the "Murder House" and "Asylum"). Guest star Stevie Nicks appeared in two episodes to play herself as a white witch.

Answer: Suspiria

A cult classic in Argento's long-running horror catalogue, "Suspiria" featured Jessica Harper as Suzy Bannion, an American dancer heading to a German dance academy only to discover something horrible amiss around the girls there. The truth was, a coven of witches was running their business, serving one of The Three Mothers, in this case 'Mater Suspiriorum'.

The other two 'Mothers' were seen in "Inferno" (1980) and "The Mother of Tears" (2007). "Suspiria" was remade and reimagined in 2018 by "Call Me By Your Name" director Luca Guadagnino.

Answer: Sabrina

First appearing in a 1962 issue of "Archie's Madhouse", Sabrina the Teenage Witch quickly became a fan favourite, showing up in her own animated TV spin-off in 1970. The 1990s teen show "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" featured Melissa Joan Hart in the titular role and, after a live-action version of the "Archie" property appeared on The CW (as "Riverdale"), its success led to a "Sabrina" reboot being created on NETFLIX in 2018 (as "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina").

Answer: Charmed

Airing for eight years, "Charmed" followed three sisters living in San Francisco as witches, occasionally fighting evil but also living their lives in the Halliwell Manor. Starring Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano, the show was highly watched for the network until its finale in 2006. Doherty left the show at the end of its third year and was replaced, story-wise, with Rose McGowan.

In the show, the sisters inherit the mansion they live in from their grandmother upon her death while, at the same time, they inherit her magic powers, strengthening their bond with 'The Power of Three'.

Answer: The Craft

Starring the quartet of Fairuza Balk, Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True, this movie centered on a group of girls starting to dabble in witchcraft only to discover that they could unlock powers bestowed upon them by a dark God. Their powers, however, seem to taint their friendship as some start to lean more into a darker side.

The movie was a surprise hit, ending up successful in the box office and attaining a cult following. Star Neve Campbell would subsequently appear in "Scream".

Answer: Melisandre

Melisandre appears as early as "A Clash of Kings in George R. R. Martin's novel series and, as such, appears at the start of the TV adaptation's second season. Portrayed by Carice van Houten, the character is known for being provocative and mysterious, only being revealed as someone of advanced age, only protected by magic.

Although her prophecies lead to a downfall of sorts within House Baratheon, her later actions seem to indicate redemption as she resurrects Jon Snow after his death and leads Daenerys Targaryen to summon him to Dragonstone.

Much of her magic derives from blood and sacrifice.

Answer: Willow

Portrayed by Alyson Hannigan, Willow is initially a bookish nerd in early seasons as she begins to fit into Buffy's 'Scooby Gang' at Sunnydale High School. Somewhere in the second season, Willow begins to use witchcraft due to the circumstances of one of the weekly baddies, but this experience leads her to take it up to a greater extent; she becomes a stronger witch as she proceeds onward to college.

She would become the big bad evil of the sixth season but revert back to the good side for the last season.

Answer: The Chronicles of Narnia

First met in Lewis' first "Narnia" novel (chronologically), "The Magician's Nephew", Jadis is a queen of another world known as Charn though she emerges into the real world and is eventually brought to Narnia by Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer. She returns in "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" to take over Narnia as her magic has grown so significantly that she's plunged the world into eternal winter. That book culminates in a large battle where Aslan, the great lion, kills her.

In the 2005 Disney adaptation, she was portrayed by Tilda Swinton.
