Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Looney Tunes character is known for his "Ooooooh" red hair and red moustache?

Answer: Yosemite Sam

The character Yosemite Sam first appeared in the cartoon "Hare Trigger" as an adversary to Bugs Bunny in 1945. He has appeared in various Looney Tunes cartoons in many roles such as a Pirate, Indian chief, Viking and Guard Captain. One of his notable appearances was in the 1996 movie "Space Jam" alongside many other Looney Tunes characters. The "Pulp Fiction" parody scene here is one of my favourites with Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd replete in black and white attire supported by music from the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack.

2. Basil Brush was a cheeky puppet that first appeared in 1962. Best known for his bushy tail and crazy laugh, "Ha, ha, boom, boom". What type of animal is Basil Brush?

Answer: Red Fox

Basil Brush, a red fox hand puppet, first appeared in a TV show called "The Three Scampis" (1962) along with a human and Spike McPike, a Scottish hedgehog. Basil then made appearances on David Nixon's magic show in 1967 and 1968. In 1968 he was given his own BBC television show. Known for his raucous laugh, sophisticated humour, "posh" voice based on Terry Thomas' accent and his ability to tell a story, Basil soon found broad appeal across all ages, not just children. Part of the appeal is you never saw the puppeteer, Ivan Owen who never gave interviews, only Basil. Even after Owen's death in 2000, the character continued with no "visible" puppeteer. Basil has appeared in numerous media with guest appearances and in various guises. In 2005 he became the first puppet to win the game show, "The Weakest Link" (UK version). In 2015 he was afforded his own YouTube channel.

3. Which famous redhead was created in 1963 to advertise a well known fast food chain?

Answer: Ronald McDonald

Ronald McDonald is the face of McDonalds and probably one of the worlds most famous clowns. He has appeared in many of their commercials since 1963 and shows no sign of being dropped.
In China he is known as Uncle McDonald as a sign of respect for elders and Donald McDonald in Japan.
He was first played by Willard Scott who was initially known as "Bozo The Clown" until creating Ronald.

4. In which of the following films does a red haired rabbit exclaim "I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way"?

Answer: 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (Jessica Rabbit)

Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) is explaining the difficulties he is having in being a man in the presence of such a beautiful woman as Jessica when she lays the above line on him. In this 1988 film Roger is framed for the murder of Marvin Acme and seeks out the help of Eddie Valiant, an alcoholic detective with a distrust of "toons", to help him prove his innocence. Kathleen Turner, fresh from her successes in "Romancing the Stone" (1984) and "Prizzi's Honor" (1985), provides the sultry voice of Jessica, the extremely beautiful but highly flirtatious wife of Roger. Roger looks like such a dork (yes he's lovable) that it's hard to reconcile how he could score such a dish as Jessica... "he makes me laugh" she says.

5. This may sound like a good investment but what dancing clown did Tim Curry portray in the TV film "It"?

Answer: Pennywise

In the Stephen King TV adaptation of his novel "It" Tim Curry played the role of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The entity known as It, is able to shapeshift to represent a persons fears, from such things as a spider to a clown. "It" aired in 1990 and Tim Curry's performance was praised, even with the bad jokes in the script. In a recent YouTube channel list of "10 Creepiest Stephen King Characters Ever" Pennywise claimed the top spot. In doing so he beat other iconic King characters such as Randall Flagg and Annie Wilkes.

6. Dubbed the "She-Devil with a Sword", Brigitte Nielsen plays the female equivalent of "Conan the Destroyer" in which 1985 film?

Answer: Red Sonja

After her parents and brother have been murdered by the evil Queen Gedren Sonja is raped by the Queen's soldiers and left for dead. Sonja begins training with a sword master and is visited by a spirit that imbues her with the strength of revenge before setting out on her quest to kill the queen. Along the way she encounters the (dying) sole survivor of an order of priestesses who had been the guardians of a talisman that had the power to destroy the world. Gedren had slaughtered the order and stolen the talisman. Red Sonja, with the help of Lord Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Falkon (Paul L. Smith) sets off to win the day.
"Red Sonja" is based on the character "Red Sonya" created by Robert E. Howard, who'd also created Conan, and first appeared in the 1934 short story "The Shadow of the Vulture".

7. In the original 1964-66 marionette TV series, "The Thunderbirds", the premise is that a retired entrepreneur, Jeff Tracey had five sons who headed an International Rescue company. As they were marionettes with "wooden" facial features, which brother, who piloted the submersible Thunderbird 4 had red hair?

Answer: Gordon

Gordon is described as a aquanaut. His back story includes a past history as an Olympic swimmer and a reputation as a joker. As the pilot of Thunderbird 4, which was a yellow submarine like vehicle (with a car-like windscreen!), it was reliant on other Thunderbirds to take the slower vehicle to "The Danger Zone". It was often transported to the site in a pod in Thunderbird 2. As such Gordon was often Virgil's co-pilot.
Interestingly, Gordon morphed from a redhead to a blonde in the 2015 series

8. The popular red muppet Elmo from the long-running children's television series "Sesame Street" had his early beginnings as an extra in a number of sketches in the show. What was his name then?

Answer: Baby Monster

The red muppet made his first appearances as a background character going by the name "Baby Monster". The character was later developed and appeared as "Elmo" in Season 12 of the series.

Elmo is three-and-a-half years old and has a distinctive high-pitched voice and laughter. He refers to himself in the third person, which is characteristic of children that age. His creators intended for Elmo to embody love and Elmo has since become a huge favourite of children through the decades.

9. Fred's wife, Pebbles' Mum, Betty's best friend and daughter of Pearl Slaghoople. Which redhead does this describe?

Answer: Wilma Flintstone

Wilma Flintstone is the wife of stone-age man Fred Flintstone. She lived in a house in Bedrock with Fred, her daughter Pebbles (another redhead), their pet dinosaur "Dino" and their sabre-tooth tiger "Baby Puss". They live next door to their best friends' Barney and Betty Rubble.
Wilma's maiden name is quite a touchy subject. Hanna Barbera were not too fussy about continuity and she has been variously called; Wilma Pebble, Wilma Slaghoople and Wilma Sufflehooper.
Penelope Pitstop was a blonde character from "The Wacky Races", Jane Jetson was a redhead from "The Jetsons" and Velma Dinkley was a brunette in "Scooby Doo".

10. Which actress from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" played Daphne in the 2002 live-action movie "Scooby Doo," based on the popular cartoon of the same name?

Answer: Sarah Michelle Gellar
