Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unicron was introduced in 1986 as a main antagonist in "The Transformers: The Movie", where he was voiced by which legendary actor?

Answer: Orson Welles

Unicron was one of the main antagonists in "The Transformers: The Movie", an animated film set in the same continuity as the original "Transformers" (Generation 1) animated series (1984-1987). In most Transformers media, Unicron is depicted as a giant Transformer who becomes a large monstrous planet, complete with a ring, a mouth and two long horns. He would sustain himself by consuming other planets and their inhabitants.

In this film, Unicron was voiced by Orson Welles, who gained notoriety for narrating H.G. Wells' novel "The War of The Worlds" over the radio in 1938. He is also known for the classic movie "Citizen Kane" in 1941. Orson Welles was in poor health when he was hired to play Unicron. He died on October 10, 1985, at 70 years old, just days after recording his lines.
2. In the original Marvel Comics series featuring "The Transformers", Unicron was shown to be an evil god. Which other god from "The Transformers" was his arch nemesis?

Answer: Primus

In the original "Transformers" comic book published by Marvel Comics (1984-1991), Unicron was portrayed as an evil god. He and his nemesis Primus, the creator of the Transformers, were engaged in an endless battle in the divine realm. Their battle spilled over into the mortal realm where both of them became entombed within two lifeless planets.

Primus shaped his planet into Cybertron and created the Transformers to inhabit the world and eventually evolve to be able to defend against Unicron. Unicron decided to shape his world into the same monster planet he became in "The Transformers: The Movie".
3. The head of Unicron made an appearance in the "Beast Wars" episode "Other Voices". Was it really the Chaos Bringer himself?

Answer: No

The "Beast Wars" animated series (1996-1999) is set in the same continuity as the "Generation 1" animated series. The characters were from the cartoon's distant future, however they all ended up trapped in the past, more specifically Earth's prehistoric era.

The two-part episode "Other Voices" was the season one finale of the "Beast Wars" cartoon. In the episode, an alien faction known as The Vok had taken Optimus Primal prisoner. In order to communicate with him, The Vok took the form of the most fearsome entity in Primal's mind, which turned out to be Unicron. The Vok then spoke to him as Unicron's head in order to deliver a deadly warning. Except for a flashback scene, Unicron himself did not appear in "Beast Wars".
4. For which "Transformers" series did Hasbro release the first official (non-prototype) toy of Unicron in 2003?

Answer: Transformers: Armada

There were several attempts by Hasbro to produce a Unicron toy, however none of the previous prototypes ever saw mass production. The first official toy of Unicron was released for the "Transformers: Armada" toyline in 2003. It was a large "supreme class" toy that turned into the iconic monster planet. The toy would be re-released several times, including one version that was colored to better match his original "Generation 1" incarnation.

"Transformers: Armada" (2002-2003) was the first of "The Unicron Trilogy", a three part series of toys, comic books and cartoons. In the "Armada" cartoon, Unicron was portrayed as the creator of the Mini-Cons. Unicron was also used as the final boss of "Transformers", a video game released for PlayStation 2 in 2004, which featured characters from the "Transformers: Armada" series.
5. What was the name of the alien entity that took control of Unicron in the early episodes of the "Transformers: Energon" animated series?

Answer: Alpha-Q

"Transformers: Energon" (2004-2005) was the second series of "The Unicron Trilogy". In the animated series, after Unicron was defeated in "Transformers: Armada", the Chaos Bringer went into a state of dormancy. Alpha-Q (aka Alpha-Quintesson), whose planet had been previously devoured by Unicron, awoke from stasis and took control of the sleeping giant.

Alpha-Q revived a group of drones called Terrorcons and began a quest to gather enough energy to restore his homeworld. Alpha-Q was later deposed from Unicron by Megatron who was also held in a dormant state within Unicron, until the other Decepticons revived him. Megatron would later take control of Unicron himself. In this series, Unicron's design was the same as it was in "Transformers: Armada", but with a different color scheme.
6. Hasbro released a smaller action figure of Unicron in 2006 as part of their "Transformers: Cybertron" toyline. What did it transform into?

Answer: alien tank

"Transformers: Cybertron" (2005-2006) was the third and final series of "The Unicron Trilogy". In the cartoon, the destruction of Unicron caused the appearance of a black hole that threatened to destroy Cybertron, Earth and several other planets if it was not contained in time. Unicron himself did not appear in the cartoon.

However, Unicron did appear in the "Transformers: Cybertron" toyline. In this series, he received a smaller "deluxe class" action figure. Instead of being released with his normal monster planet alternate mode, this toy re-imagined the character as transforming into an alien tank, with his signature horns placed at the front of it.
7. Unicron was heavily featured in the "Transformers: Prime" animated series. Which celestial body did he inhabit in this show?

Answer: Earth

In "Transformers: Prime" (2010-2013), instead of becoming a monster planet as was told in the original Marvel Comics series, Unicron became embedded in the planet that would eventually become Earth. Megatron discovered Dark Energon (the blood of Unicron) on Earth and eventually discovered the Chaos Bringer himself resting within the Earth's core. A series of supernatural events cause Unicron to awaken from his slumber.

Megatron initially wanted to form an alliance with Unicron, but the Chaos Bringer felt Megatron was not worthy enough to be his ally. Seeing Unicron now as a foe rather than an ally, Megatron teamed up with Optimus Prime to send Unicron back to sleep. After Megatron was killed by Bumblebee in "Deadlock", the final episode of "Transformers: Prime", Unicron possessed Megatron's body in order to attack Cybertron during the "Transformers: Prime" movie titled "Predacons Rising" (2013).
8. Which of the following live action films featuring "The Transformers" teased the appearance of Unicron?

Answer: The Last Knight

"Transformers: The Last Knight" (2017) was the fifth installment of Michael Bay's series of "Transformers" live action movies. One of the major events of the film were the spontaneous appearance of spiked horns across the world. These horns were determined to have belonged to Unicron, who like "Transformers: Prime" lied dormant within the Earth.

However, due to the negative reception of "The Last Knight", and the Michael Bay films in general, a direct sequel that would have most likely featured Unicron was not made, leaving the original series stuck on a cliffhanger. The live action continuity of "Transformers" was softly rebooted in the subsequent film "Transformers: Bumblebee" in 2018.
9. The "Transformers: Unicron" mini-series was published by which comic book company in 2018?

Answer: IDW Publishing

"Transformers: Unicron" ran for seven issues in 2018 (numbered 0-6) and served as the finale of a continuity that began with all the way back in 2005, when IDW (Idea and Design Works) Publishing took control of the comic book side of the Transformers franchise.

IDW Publishing is a comic book company based out of San Diego, California. They have gained a good reputation amongst fans for releasing some memorable comic book stories featuring the Transformers. Some of IDW's other notable titles include "Stormbringer" (2005), "Last Stand of The Wreckers" (2010) and "More Than Meets the Eye/Lost Light" (2012-2018) .
10. Which character was shown to be a servant of Unicron in Netflix' "Transformers: War for Cybertron" animated series?

Answer: Nemesis Prime

The "War for Cybertron" trilogy (2020-2021) was an animated series released by Netflix. The series was separated in to three seasons containing six episodes each ("Siege", "Earthrise" and "Kingdom"). The series was an alternate take of the events that took place during "Generation 1", including "Beast Wars". The Netflix series was created to help promote Hasbro's toyline, which included the release of a new Unicron toy, whose planet mode measured a whopping 30 inches in diameter.

Unicron made his first appearance during "Earthrise", the show's second season. He would feature more heavily in the show's final season "Kingdom". In this continuity, Unicron had enslaved both Megatron and Optimus Prime in an alternate future timeline, turning them into Galvatron and Nemesis Prime, respectively. They become the main antagonists towards the end of "Kingdom", where their goal is to alter history so that they will no longer be slaves of The Chaos Bringer.
