Never tickle a sleeping dragon! While writing the third book, it was J.K. Rowling's Hogwarts Crest that inspired her to include dragons in the Triward Tournament.

With this, she turned back time one hour and went to another class, thus learning three times as much which was very tiring, even for Hermione! In the end, it is the time-turner that saves Buckbeak and helps Sirius escape.

"'Hermione, look,' said Ron, 'Your timetable's wrong. They have you down for about 10 subjects a day! See this morning? Nine o'clock, Divination. And underneath, nine o'clock, Muggle Studies. And -' Ron leant closer to get a better look at her timetable, disbelieving, 'LOOK - underneath that, Muggle Studies! how are you supposed to take three classes at once?'
'Oh, don't worry, Ron!' Hermione snapped, 'I told you! I've fixed it with Professor McGonagall!'"

While Professor Trelawney had been predicting Harry's death since the start of the term (and was incorrect about it), she also predicted that Neville would smash a plate (which he did), and that someone in their Divination class would leave them around October forever which was also correct, as Hermione left the class).

Throughout the Quidditch game in the four books, Oliver Wood stopped the opposition's goal no fewer that forty times!

To get into Hogsmeade, Harry used a secret tunnel that he found out about from a map the Weasley twins, Fred and George, gave him. It was called a Marauder's Map, and made by Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. (Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs were Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black and James Potter in that respective order - they were all troublesome school mates!)

At the end of the book, we find out that the Shrieking Shack got its name from Professor Lupin, because when he turned into a werewolf once a month, we would go into the Shack and howl, to wait until the full moon had passed and he could turn back into a wizard again.
