Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the "Star Wars" franchise, Han Solo's co-pilot is a fighting hero in his own right. Who is Han's not-very-communicative sidekick, once compared to a "walking carpet"?

Answer: Chewbacca

Chewbacca is both a famed Wookiee warrior (and commander) and the co-pilot (with Han Solo) of the Millennium Falcon. In addition to fighting the forces of evil, the two are smugglers. He is a chess player who hates to lose. His loyalty is unexcelled. Princess Leia once described him as a "walking carpet" with reference to his hirsuteness.

His efforts to return to his wife and family on the planet Kashyyyk were repeatedly frustrated.
2. Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan, forensic anthropologist, has a relationship with her FBI partner, then boyfriend, then husband. In the Fox TV series, who was her sidekick?

Answer: Seeley Booth

"Bones" played from 2005-2017. The premise was that a forensic anthropologist and forensic archaeologist could lend scientific assistance to the investigation of modern murders. Sealey Booth was played by David Boreanaz (formerly a vampire on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"). His marriage to Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel) diluted much of the sexual tension in the programme.
3. In "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984), who is the 11-year-old Chinese sidekick who saves Indy's life more than once?

Answer: Short Round

Played by Jonathan Ke Quan, Short Round rescues his adult friend again and again: driving the 1936 Speedster and awakening Indy from an hypnotic trance. The actor is Vietnamese. He also played Richard "Data" Wang in another Steven Spielberg movie: "The Goonies" in 1985.
4. Elijah was an Old Testament prophet in the northern Kingdom of Israel. When King Ahab and Queen Jezebel sought his life, he feared no one would succeed him. Who was called to be a sidekick to Elijah and then take his place?

Answer: Elisha

Elijah rather dramatically defeated Jezebel's prophets of Baal when he called down fire from heaven on a sacrifice. He condemned King Ahab for murder. While Elijah was hiding out for his life, God told him to anoint Elisha as a prophet in Israel. When Elijah was carried directly to heaven in a fiery chariot, Elisha took up his mantle and received a double portion of the Spirit which had been upon Elijah.
5. On the Canadian-American children's TV show "The Magic Schoolbus," the teacher, Ms. Frizzle, is assisted by her pet lizard of what name?

Answer: Liz

The television programme "The Magic Schoolbus" is based on a series of books published by Scholastic. Voices have included Lily Tomlin, Wynonna Judd, Dolly Parton, Tony Randall and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Liz, the lizard, does not speak. The written series began in 1985; the animated series in 1994. The emphasis is on science.
6. The commandant of WW-II's Luft Stalag 13 prisoner-of-war camp is Colonel Wilhelm Klink. On CBS' "Hogan's Heroes," who is his overweight bumbling Oberfeldwebel of the Guard?

Answer: Hans Schultz

"Hogan's Heroes" aired from 1965 to 1971 and has appeared in syndication pretty much continually ever since. Colonel Klink is incompetent; Sgt Schultz is calculatedly inept, especially when it comes to accepting bribes of chocolate from Red Cross packages, liquor and Corporal Louis LeBeau's French gourmet cooking. Schultz' catchphrase was "I hear nothing. I see nothing. I know nothing."
7. George is a hippopotamus in a series of books (1972-88), animated television programmes (1999-2000) and a musical (2011). Who is his best friend?

Answer: Martha

James Marshall wrote and illustrated the children's books in the George and Martha series. Maurice Sendak of Wild Things Productions co-produced the TV series on which Nathan Lane voiced George. George and Martha sometimes play pranks on each other and occasionally fight but always make up.
8. Bill Murray plays Tripper Harrison, head counselor at Camp North Star, in 1979's "Meatballs." Who is the young camper played by Chris Makepeace trained in cross-country racing by Tripper?

Answer: Rudy "the Rabbit" Gerner

"Meatballs" was a Canadian summer-camp comedy. Murray played a counselor who cared about a kid named Rudy Gerner who didn't fit in. He took him running every morning and nicknamed him "Rudy the Rabbit." Counselor Tripper's confidence in Rudy paid off when the Rabbit won the cross-country race in an end-of-summer contest with Camp Mohawk.
9. Walt Disney brought the legend of Davy Crockett to television and theatre. Who was depicted in the Disney version as Davy's sidekick?

Answer: George Russell

The character George Russell was played by Buddy Ebsen. The Disney series followed the two men as the fought together in the Creek Indian War, as Crockett went to Congress, and as the two friends traveled to Texas and fought at the Alamo.
10. In the eponymous book by Dr. Seuss, who is the mean and nasty Grinch's sidekick?

Answer: Max

The Grinch is a green reclusive creature who is annoyed by the joy which Christmas brings to his neighbours, the Whos. He disguises himself as Santa Claus and compels his dog Max to serve as his reindeer to steal the Whos' Christmas gifts and decorations. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" was published in 1957.

In the 1966 animated television version, the Grinch was voiced by Boris Karloff. Ron Howard directed Jim Carrey as the Grinch in the 2000 live-action movie. Both the Grinch and Max appear in the 2000 Broadway musical "Seussical."
