He rises through the ranks quickly and has many adventures, including witnessing the death of Gustavus Adolphus, the King of Sweden and commander of the army. Although the war carries on, with France entering the war (documented in another book by G.A.

Answer: Edgar and Rupert Clinton

Edgar and Rupert Clinton are English lads who were born to different parents in India when both fathers were serving in the army. Due to an unfortunate incident, the babies were mixed up, and Captain Clinton takes both lads home to raise as his own. Edgar realizes that he and Rupert are not brothers, so he runs away and enlists in the army, despite being underage. Later, Rupert also enlists in search for Edgar.

After many adventures, Rupert finds his roving brother and persuades him to return home. No one knew which lad was really the son of the Clintons, and both were welcomed equally as sons.

The brothers finally meet and return home together.

Walter Somers follows King Edward's banner during the Hundred Years' War. Walter goes through many adventures while with the army, one of the highlights of which was the Battle of Crecy. The Battle of Crecy (anglicized into "Cressy") is a major battle during the war, and sets the stage for the end of the war with a decisive English victory. Walter fights in the battle beside Edward of Woodstock, known as the "Black Prince".

He returns home and marries an heiress. Despite no longer roving, he faces the Black Death, but manages to survive the plague. Summoned by the king, he embarks on one last journey, then settles down for good.

10. Terence O'Connor is the hero of two books, both detailing the Peninsular War. Which books are these?

Answer: "With Moore at Corunna", "Under Wellington's Command"

"The Wild Rover" reputedly originated in Ireland, so, as a fitting end to the quiz, the protagonist is an Irish lad. Terence leaves home with his father's regiment as an ensign, despite being underage.

In the first book, "With Moore at Corunna", Terence serves in the army under General John Moore all the way until the army's retreat to the city of Corunna and hasty embarkation for England.
