Glamdring was the sword which was first wielded by Turgon, King of Gondolin. When he perished when the Tower of the King collapsed upon him, the fate of his sword was the same. However, years later it must have been recovered by trolls. Bilbo and his merry band of dwarves encountered three trolls who were about to eat them, but for the smart deception by Gandalf. Defeating the trolls, the party found their loot in their lair, and in the pile were two swords of Gondolin, Glamdring and Orcrist (and Bilbo's short-sword Sting as well). Gandalf claimed Glamdring while Thorin Oakenshield claimed Orcrist.

The story of this sword can be found in JRR Tolkien's "The Hobbit", "Lord of the Rings", "The Silmarillion" as well as in "Unfinished Tales".

Richard Cypher, also known as Richard Rahl, is the hero of the stories in the "Sword of Truth" series that was written by Terry Goodkind. The series is named after the sword that Richard wields which he received when the wizard Zedd named Richard as the Seeker of Truth.

The sword will not kill an enemy who is not deserving and Richard must learn to use this power to seek out the truth and to free his land from evil tyranny.

The series "Book of Swords" was published between 1983 to 1995 by Fred Saberhagen and follows twelve Swords of Power, each with its own unique ability. While these abilities may seem like a huge boon to the wielder, they also can place the very same person at a great disadvantage.

These swords were placed on a post-apocalyptic Earth as a sort-of 'game' for the gods' amusement, a survival-of-the-fittest event. The swords, as written in the stories, are: Townsaver, Shieldbreaker, Stonecutter, Woundhealer, Doomgiver, Coinspinner, Dragonslicer, Farslayer, the Mindsword, Sightblinder, Wayfinder, and Soulcutter.

"The Belgariad", written by David Eddings, tells the story of Garion (later called Belgarion), and his discovery of who he actually is while battling the evil Torak. The story centers on a sentient object of power called the Orb who was created by one of the seven gods and then another of them attempted to steal it.

The Orb was eventually found by the sorcerer Belgarath. Belgarath has the Orb stolen from him and enlists the help of the lad Garion to retrieve it. Along the way, Garion grows up and realizes that he, too, is a sorcerer, and gets a sword to match his new role, the Rivan Sword.

C.S. Lewis' "The Chronicles of Narnia" tell of alternate worlds that are connected to our world and children that travel between the worlds and have all sorts of adventures. In the first book, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", Peter Pevensie and his three siblings go to the world of Narnia and help overturn the endless Winter brought about by the White Witch. Aided by talking animals and Aslan, a lion who is revered by all, they manage to break the White Witch's hold on the land and to bring about Spring.

When the Winter begins to fade away, Father Christmas comes around giving everyone presents. Peter's present is the sword Rhindon, which he wears proudly as High King of Narnia.

Cassandra Clare wrote the series "The Shadowhunter Chronicles" and told the story of a world where myth and legend, heroes of religion as well as the demons, exist in the same world as regular humans. One of the characters, Cordelia Carstairs, wields a sword called Cortana which is also a family heirloom.

The stories of the land of Shadow encompasses a time arc reaching from the Victorian Era all the way to the present day. The sword, Cortana, first shows up in the Victorian time. It possesses some sort of choice, as it chooses Cordelia as its owner. Cordelia uses it to great effect.

The sword appears again many years later in the hands of Emma Carstairs, another Shadowhunter.

Answer: The Neverending Story

German author Michael Ende brought us the novel "Die unendliche Geschichte" in 1979. When it was translated into English in 1983 as "The Neverending Story", it was immediately liked by many. A year later, a movie adaptation of part of the story was made and was well-received by audiences, though not by the author, who attempted to sue the makers of the movie.

However, the novel, which follows the adventures of the shy, overweight, and abandoned young boy Bastian Balthazar Bux, and how he falls into the story he is reading, a story that never ends, but somehow involves him as one of the characters. Bastian gets the sword, Sikanda, from the lion Grograman but the sword must chose to leap out of its scabbard, not be drawn, otherwise bad luck will follow whoever does so.

Callandor is a crystal sword that is a sa'angreal, or power amplifier, that is used by Rand al'Thor. This sword appears in Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series that follows Rand, as the Dragon Reborn, in his quest to defeat the dark powers of Shai'tan, the evil counterpart to the Creator. Rand is the only one who can wield Callandor as the Dragon is the only person who can access the True Power.

Other notable swords in this series are the Heron-marked blades. Anyone who attains the distinction of being a blademaster is allowed to mark their blades with a heron on the hilt or the blade itself. Others, seeing this, know to steer clear, as the carriers of heron-marked blades are superior fighters.

Answer: Princes of Amber

Corwin, Brand, and their siblings are all Princes and Princesses of Amber in Roger Zelazny's epic series "The Chronicles of Amber" which leads off with the novel "Nine Princes in Amber". The ten novels follow two story arcs, one of Corwin, the second-born son of Oberon, King of Amber, and his attempt to take the throne upon his father's disappearance. The second follows Merlin, Corwin's son, as he grapples with trying to live an 'ordinary' life while being an initiate of both the Pattern and the Logrus, each representing the different sides of the universe, order and chaos.

Corwin's sword Grayswandir is an extension of his arm, used often as Corwin attempts to seek justice. It often appears to Corwin even though it should be far from him, as though it's called, and is imprinted with the Pattern, an emblem of power.

George R.R. Martin's epic series "A Song of Ice and Fire" begins with the thrilling novel "A Game of Thrones" and follows many characters along their dangerous journey to become the King of Westeros. While Martin creates many important characters, the reader has to be wary not to get too attached to any of them as some characters, even main characters, may be killed off to serve the plot.

In House Stark, a family that is of the north, there is a bastard son called Jon Snow. He gets sent to the Night's Watch, a group of misfits, criminals, and people who are hiding (from themselves or from others) that watch over The Wall, a massive fortification that protects against the White Walkers, a kind of zombie-like enemy. Jon gets the sword Longclaw when he is made the Commander of the Night's Watch and has the pommel remade to match his house sigil, the direwolf.
