Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Palantiri were made by Feanor in...

Answer: Eldamar

They were seven and through them "things far away could be seen small but clear".
2. They were brought from Numenor to Middle-earth by

Answer: Elendil

The Eldar gave them to Amandil, father of Elendil, to bring hope to the Faightful of Numenor.
3. True or false: They were smooth spheres with size about 3 feet each.

Answer: False

They were different in size - the smallest were about one feet, while the great stones in Amon Sul and Osgiliath couldn't be lifted by one man. The Palantiri were made of solid glass or crystal in a deep black hue.
4. If you want to look Eastward, you have to look in it from

Answer: Westside

The Palantiri were set in the poles corresponding to the Earth poles on round tables, made of black marble.
5. If someone who doesn't possess a strong will looks in a Palantir, shall he see anything?

Answer: Yes

Everybody could look in a Palntiri and see what there might be in its line of sight, but only those with great will were able to enlarge specific objects or to reveal the thoughts of someone, looking at another stone.
6. In which of the following wasn't kept a Palantir?

Answer: There was a Palantiri at all of the three places

These were the western Palantiri that belonged to Elendil. Those from Amon Sul and Annuminas sank in the Bay of Forochel.
7. True or false: The Palantir of Orthanc was brought there by Saruman.

Answer: False

Saruman had found it there and used it for his plans, but the only thing that happened was that he revealed himself to Sauron and became more or less his obedient.
8. The Minas Ithil's Palantir was captured by Sauron. It was the Palantir of:

Answer: Isildur

This Palantiri was destroyed when Sauron was defeated in 3019 T.A.
9. Aragorn II had the last Palantir left in Middle-earth. It was the Palantir of:

Answer: Orthanc

There was another one in Middle-earth, lying in Rath Dinen with Denetor II, but it was useless, for the only thing to be seen in it (unless you don't have the power of the ancient) was the burning hands of Denethor II.
10. How many Palantiri returned to the West?

Answer: 1

I already said what happened to the Palantiri of Amon Sul, Annuminas, Minas Anor, Minas Ithil and Orthanc. The Palantir of Osgiliath was lost in the burning of the tower in the War of the Kin-strife in 1437 T.A. The Palantir of Elostirion returned to the West. It didn't correspond with the others anyway, because Elendil had set it towards the Sea, so he could see the Blessed Realm.
