Answer: He was the largest boy in the class

Yoshio Akamatsu was tall and had a large build, but despite his size he was a very timid person. He was often bullied because of his size, and also because of his lack of sporting ability (which was due to his size), and this was what made him mistrustful of his classmates once the game began.

Answer: Ryuhei Sasagawa

All the characters mentioned were members of Kazuo Kiriyama's gang of "delinquents", and all of them had bullied Yoshio at one point or another. Ryuhei Sasagawa is singled out as being the member of the group who most often liked to torment Yoshio.

Answer: Double Bladed Knife

Mizuho was supplied with a double bladed knife. There were around five students who had knives supplied in their day packs, though each one received a different type. All of the other weapons listed belonged to other students on the island.

Answer: Shuya throws one of Yoshio's arrows at him, making him hit his head

Shuya runs out of the school, and Yoshio attacks him. He shoots one of his arrows at Shuya, who grabs the arrow and throws it back at Yoshio. Yoshio loses his balance, and hits his head, knocking him out for a couple of minutes, during which time Shuya escapes with Noriko Nakagawa.

Answer: Prexia

Mizuho had always made up these fantasies in her head. Her friends tolerated it, and even reluctantly joined in her games, but they secretly found it tedious. The pressure of the game finally got to Mizuho, and she believed that the fantasy world was reality.

In the manga version of the story, it is suggested that Mizuho is an undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, but this is not really covered in the novel.

Answer: She bought it from a mail order catalogue

Mizuho believed that Ahura Mazda spoke to her from inside the crystal, even though she bought it from a catalogue. She believed he had sent her the message that she was to become a warrior via a local fortune teller.

Answer: Yoshio stood up and Kazushi was startled, and accidentally fired

Yoshio woke up, after being knocked out by Shuya, just as Kazushi Niida was exiting the school. Kazushi found the bowgun and picked it up with no intention of shooting Yoshio, but when Yoshio stood up suddenly, Kazushi reflexively fired the bowgun.

Answer: Kazuo Kiriyama and Mitsuko Souma

While immersed in her fantasy world, Mizuho belived that Kazuo and Mitsuko were both demons, because she had witnessed them killing the other students. She thought it was her duty, as a warrior of the god of light, to kill the demons.

Answer: Neck

The arrow from the bowgun hit Yoshio in the neck, killing him. This differs from the manga version of the story, where he is killed by an arrow to the side of the head, and also from the film, where it appears Yoshio is shot in the face.

Answer: A legendary sword

Mizuho ran at Kazuo and tried to kill him from behind with her knife, which she believed had transformed into a legendary sword. Unfortunately, Kazuo knew she was approaching, and shot her without even turning to look at her.
