Answer: Hatchet

Tatsumichi was supplied with a hatchet in his day pack. In the film version of "Battle Royale", the video presenter, Big Sister, produces a hatchet from her bag and claims it is an excellent weapon. While the weapon could admittedly be far worse, many students on the island received guns which would probably be far more effective than the hatchet.

Answer: Megumi's mobile phone rang

Megumi hides inside the house, and realises she has her mobile phone with her. She tries to phone her father, but Kinpatsu Sakamochi answers, as they've taken control of all the telephone signals nearby. Sakamochi calls the phone again, as Mitsuko enters the house.

This was probably done deliberately - Sakamochi could see the location of all the students, so he probably called the phone because he noticed another student was nearby.

Answer: Shuya Nanahara

Tatsumichi was hiding with his hatchet. When he saw Shuya approach, he jumped out and attacked him. Shuya was reluctant to fight anyone - he was hoping to find a way for all of his classmates to live, but he was forced to fight back in self defence.

Answer: Cheerful and nice

Tatsumichi was always a cheerful and friendly character, so Shuya is stunned when he is attacked by him. As the game progresses, Shuya comes to realise that many of his classmates have been driven to extreme acts like this because of the pressure and the fear of the game, but this is the first time he sees a friend of his acting in this way (he understands more with Yoshio Akamatsu, because Yoshio has always been bullied).

Answer: Hirono Shimizu

Hirono was a member of Mitsuko Souma's gang, and the whole gang often treated their classmates very badly. Megumi was one of the quieter girls in the class, and Hirono saw her as a target.

Answer: Mizuho Inada and Kaori Minami

Megumi was quiet and shy, and she could usually be found with Mizuho Inada and Kaori Minami. She was also friends with Noriko Nakagawa, but this friendship is shown less in the novel than it is in the film, where Noriko is visibly shaken by Megumi's death.

Answer: Handball

Tatsumichi played on the handball team, and represented the school at his sport, as did many of the boys in his class. Tatsumichi was quite well built, so he was good at sports.

Answer: Shuya Nanahara

Like many of the girls in her class, Megumi had a crush on Shuya Nanahara. Shuya never knew about this crush until after Megumi had died, and it made him feel even more sorry about her death.

Answer: Face

When Tatsumichi attacked Shuya, there was a brief struggle, during which they both fell and rolled down a hill. When they stopped moving, Shuya looked up and realised Tatsumichi's hatchet had become embedded in his face. Although this was an accident, Shuya still felt guilty about it.

Answer: She was considering killing Mitsuko

Mitsuko had a (completely justified) reputation around the school, not only for being cheap, but for being a "bad girl". When Megumi realised it was Mitsuko who had entered the house, she assumed Mitsuko would try to kill her, and tried to work out if she could kill Mitsuko herself.

When they hug, Megumi apologises for thinking about killing Mitsuko. After she says this, Mitsuko slits her throat, then says "I'm sorry, I was also trying to kill you".
