Otherwise, he is described as being quite tall, with broad shoulders and long hair.

Kazushi was another unlucky student who received a totally useless weapon. Although Kazushi only received a Shamisen Banjo, he still managed to kill Yoshio Akamatsu and threaten Takako Chigusa, using other people's weapons.

Yuka and Noriko both have the surname Nakagawa, but it is mentioned in the novel that this is a mere coincidence - as far as they know they are not related. In the film version, Yukiko Kitano has the same name as the instructor, Kitano, but the instructor in the novel was called Kinpatsu Sakamochi, and was a very different character.

Yuka received one of the guns in the lighthouse, but she never actually used it, because it was her death which triggered the shoot-out. When Shuya left the lighthouse, one of the weapons he took belonged to Yuka.

The girls in the lighthouse were pooling their resources and weapons, so Yuka was quite happy to let any of the other girls use her weapon. Takako sees Kazushi as a pathetic boy, and knows that he is a coward, so she doesn't take his threats seriously. When Kazushi accidentally cuts Takako's face, she realises that she will be permanently scarred, and finally attacks him.

Yuko Sakaki accidentally killed Yuka, which in turn caused the deaths of all the other girls in the lighthouse. Yuko poisoned Shuya Nanahara's stew, because she believed he had killed Tatsumichi Oki, but Yuka ate the stew and died.

Takako and Kazushi have one of the most graphic and violent fights in the whole book. Takako is losing the fight, when she kicks Kazushi's legs, knocking him over, then she stamps on his throat and groin, gouges out his eyes, and eventually kills him by stabbing her ice pick into his mouth and through his throat.

In the film version, she stabs him in the groin, but this does not happen in the book.
