Yoji received an antique dagger, which was spotted with rust. The material on the handle was worn away, and the guard had turned a blue-green colour, so it was presumably copper.

Like many of the students, Kayoko spent a great deal of time thinking about her family, and she mentions her older sister, though we never learn her name. It seems that most of the students who remember their siblings had a sister, there are very few mentions of brothers - probably the most notable is Toshinori Oda's brother Tadanori.

On the last New Year's celebration, Yoji and his girlfriend, Yoshimi Yahagi, dressed in traditional outfits and selected a fortune. When Yoji's was more promising than Yoshimi's he swapped with her, and gave her the better fortune.

Kayoko took part in tea ceremony in her spare time. Tea ceremony is supposed to be a very elegant affair, but Kayoko is described as being more playful than elegant. We learn little about Kayoko in the course of the story, and most of what we do learn is from her memories of her crush on the master.

Although they were shopping when they bumped into each other, they decided to go and see a movie together, and this was their first date. They knew each other from school, but this was the first time they'd ever really done anything together.

Yoji says he had heard the (true) rumours that Yoshimi had spent some time as a prostitute, and he knew that if he went out with her, she was almost guaranteed to sleep with him. However, he says this in the heat of a battle, and it's uncertain whether he actually meant it, or if he was just trying to hurt her. Either way, right before he dies, he seems to show that he really did care for Yoshimi.

Kayoko had to dress in an elegant kimono when performing tea ceremonies, and she always kept her hair up with a dark blue clip. She is described as having shoulder-length, straight, black hair. Dressing up for the tea ceremony made her feel dignified and less awkward.

The master of tea ceremony was the grandson of the school's headmaster, which may explain how he got to a position of such responsibility at such an early age. He is described as being mature beyond his years, and quietly cool - however, this is Kayoko's biased opinion!

Mitsuko stabs Yoji in the back of the head with her sickle. She claims that she did it to protect her friend Yoshimi, but she had actually been planning to use Yoshimi as a human shield, and Yoji was threatening this plan.

Kayoko was shot in the chest twice, by Mitsuko Souma. Kayoko killed Hiroki Sugimura, not realising that he was chasing her because he loved her and wanted to protect her. She found this out just before he died, and as she was mourning him, Mitsuko shot her.
