Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Dolores Umbridge get her power-hungry hands on the Slytherin locket?

Answer: She traded it for Mundugus Fletcher's freedom.

While in Grimmauld Place, Kreacher reveals that Regulus Arcturus Black told him to destroy the Slytherin locket. However, the locket was stolen by Mundungus Fletcher. Mundungus attempted to sell his stolen goods and encountered Dolores Umbridge while doing so.

The two made a deal that Umbridge would overlook the fact that Mundungus did not have an official vendor's license in exchange for the Slytherin locket. Harry, Ron and Hermione disguise themselves as Ministry of Magic workers and eventually take the locket from around Umbridge's neck before escaping.
2. It has been raining in Yaxley's office at the Ministry of Magic. According to Yaxley, how long has it been raining in his office?

Answer: days

When Yaxley stops Reginald Cattermole (Ron in disguise) in the elevator, he demands that Cattermole stop the rain in his office, which has been falling for the past two days. Yaxley also reminds Cattermole that he should be more accommodating since his wife's witch status is being questioned. Reginald's wife, Mary Elizabeth, is on trial in the courtroom.

The irony is that Dolores Umbridge is the one presiding over the case, with the Slytherin locket around her neck.
3. Who does Ronald Weasley kiss in the Ministry of Magic?

Answer: Mary Cattermole

When Ron impersonates Reginald Cattermole, he seems to forget who he is from time to time. After Harry, Ron and Hermione secure the Slytherin locket horcrux, they rescue Reginald's wife, Mary Elizabeth Cattermole, from being persecuted as a fake witch by Dolores Umbridge.

As they prepare to leave the Ministry of Magic, Ron kisses Mary Elizabeth, telling her to go home and get the children. At this moment the real Reginald shows up in his underwear and it makes for great comedy.
4. Hermione is the only one responsible for protecting the campsites each time the group apparates to a new location, using various protection charms.

Answer: False

While Hermione does protect the campsites most of the time, there is one occassion where Harry protects the campsite instead. After Ron leaves the campsite in a fit of jealous rage, Harry and Hermione disapparate to the top of a mountainous cliff. Because Hermione misses Ron (and undoubtably her parents too), she is a little out of sorts. So, Harry protects the campsite using various protection charms.
5. Who "officially" replaces Albus Dumbledore as Headmaster of Hogwarts?

Answer: Severus Snape

At the end of Harry Potter's 6th year at Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall temporarily becomes Headmistress when Dumbledore dies. However, it is Severus Snape who officially replaces Dumbledore as Headmaster of Hogwarts. While Harry, Hermione and Ron are camping out while hiding from the Dark Forces, Ron constantly listens to the radio. Snapes' promotion is announced on the radio.
6. After storming away from their tent campsite in anger, where is Ron on Christmas morning, when he hears Hermione whisper his name?

Answer: Asleep in a Pub

In their tent in the woods Harry and Hermione are trying to figure out how to destroy the Slytherin locket horcrux. The locket is secure around Ron's neck while he is asleep, recovering from being splinched. When Ron awakes, he and Harry have a heated argument. Ron grabs his personal belongings, gives the locket to Hermione and takes off into the cold wilderness alone.

When he returns, Ron explains that he was asleep in a pub when he heard Hermione's voice whisper his name. He used his Deluminator, which put out a white light that entered his body.

This guided him to the hillside, where he is just in time to rescue Harry from the icy lake.
7. Snatchers are a dark, callous group who work for personal gain. What kind of wand does Ron give to Harry, after taking it from a snatcher?

Answer: a 10 inch Blackthorn

When Ron returns to the campsite, he tells Harry about the snatchers and that he is not too impressed with them overall. He basically equates them with money greedy thugs and shares that he took a wand from one of them. The wand is a 10 inch Blackthorn.
8. What STORY does Hermione read from the book left to her by Dumbledore while visiting Xenophilius Lovegood? Hermione reads "The Tale of ________________".

Answer: the Three Brothers

Xenophilius informs Harry, Ron and Hermione that the Deathly Hallows are not just a children's tale, but are taken from the lives of the Peverell brothers. Hermione reads 'The Tale of the Three Brothers' from "The Tales of Beedle the Bard", left to her by Dumbledore.

This story is a crucial part of their journey because they ultimately discover that it is the Elder Wand that Voldemort is seeking.
9. Hermione reads a story from "The Tales of Beedle the Bard". Who is the story really about?

Answer: Antioch, Ignotus and Cadmus

The story is called "The Tale of the Three Brothers" and it is about the Peverell brothers. In the story, Death gives each brother a gift, which ultimately becomes a curse if not tempered. Antioch the eldest brother is given the Elder Wand which he uses to murder an enemy. Antioch is soon after murdered. Cadmus, the middle brother, is given The Resurrection Stone.

He commits suicide after bringing his beloved back to life only to discover he can't truly be with her. Ignotus, the youngest brother, is given the Invisibility Cloak. Because Ignotus uses his gift wisely, he is the only brother who lives a full life. Ignotus' life ends on equal grounds with Death.
10. What specific event causes Bellatrix Lestrange to send everyone else away while she carves the word "mudblood" in Hermione Granger's arm?

Answer: Bellatrix wants to know how Ron, Harry and Hermione got the Sword of Gryffindor.

Since Bellatrix suspects that Hermione used the Stinging Hex to alter Harry's face, she decides to check Hermione's wand. However, Bellatrix becomes distracted from checking the wand when she sees the Sword of Gryffindor hanging around the waist of one of the snatchers. Bellatrix loses control.

She attacks the snatchers and sends them away, orders Harry and Ron be taken to the cells and dismisses the rest of the Death Eaters so she can find out how they got the sword, by getting the information from Hermione..."girl to girl".

While we can't see Bellatrix torturing Hermione, we can hear Hermione screaming. When we finally see Hermione, she is lying on the floor with blood dripping from the word "mudblood" that had been carved into her arm.
