Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The spring of 1970 saw this group of musicians narrowly miss the top spot as they stalled at number two. However, "The Rapper" was still a huge hit. Who did it?

Answer: The Jaggerz

Billboard number two, March 21, 1970. Formed in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, they made this their signature hit. It was written by Dominic Ierace, who would later go on to the group "Wild Cherry". This group was managed by Joe Rock, who also managed the 50's group The Skyliners("Since I Don't Have You").

After this recording, and with little success following, the group disbanded. Another member of the group, Jimmie Ross, went on to join The Skyliners and toured with them for many of the oldies shows in subsequent years.
2. "One Toke Over The Line" was a Top 10 hit in the spring of 1971 for this duo. Name them.

Answer: Brewer and Shipley

Billboard number ten, April 10, 1971. Billed as a folk-rock duo, these guys wrote a lot of socially conscious type songs with marginal success. This particular song was actually written as a joke. Later President Richard Nixon had some harsh words to say about them, calling them "public miscreants", but they laughed it off.

This song probably earned them more money than Nixon made. Subsequently, they toured with the likes of Stephen Stills, Bruce Springsteen, and Black Sabbath, among others
3. The late winter of 1972 provided us with a song that still is heavily played today. The song went Top 10. Who did "Bang A Gong (Get It On)"?

Answer: T-Rex

Billboard number ten, March 4, 1972. They actually formed in London, in the 60's as a folk-rock group, but achieved their biggest success with this song as what is now termed "glam-rock". They were fronted by Marc Bolan, who unfortunately, died in an automobile accident in 1977.
4. The mellow "Wildflower" was a Top 10 hit in 1973 for this bunch. What name did they use?

Answer: Skylark

Billboard number nine, May 26, 1973. This Canadian band was around for only two years (1971-1973) and this was their only Top 40 effort. This song reached number one in Canada. One of the members of the group was David Foster, who you may know , went on to become one of the most successful music producers of all time.
5. The soft sounds of "Please Come To Boston" echoed through the airwaves in 1974 and was a Top 5 hit for this artist. Name him.

Answer: Dave Loggins

Billboard number five, August 10, 1974. Loggins is from Tennessee, and although this was his biggest hit as a recording artist, it might be argued that he had more success as a writer of country tunes. He did write Three Dog Night's Top 20 hit "Pieces of April", but he has also written material for Winona Judd, Reba McIntyre, Alabama, Toby Keith, and Kenny Rogers among others.

He also had a number one Country duet with Anne Murray in 1984 called "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do". Oh, and by the way, he is the cousin of Kenny Loggins.
6. Which singer in 1975 declared "I'm Not Lisa"?

Answer: Jessi Colter

Billboard number four, June 21, 1975. Another country crossover artist, this was her only Top 40 Pop hit. She did however have a number of Top selling hits on the country charts. She was married to country star Waylon Jennings in 1969, and remained married until Jennings' death in 2002.
7. The craze of television theme songs that made the charts was prevelant in 1976. "Making Our Dreams Come True", which was the theme song from the hit show Laverne and Shirley, was sung by this young lady. Name her.

Answer: Cyndi Grecco

Billboard number 25, July 4, 1976. A true one hit wonder, she never charted again. She did however do the theme song for another TV show of the 70's called "Blansky's Beauties" which was a spin-off of "Happy Days" but the song never charted.
8. Which group with a one word name caused us all to sweat with the song "Angel In Your Arms" in the summer of 1977?

Answer: Hot

Billboard number six, July 16, 1977. This all girl trio from Los Angeles hit the charts twice more with subsequent songs, but never reached higher that number 65 on the charts.
9. The theme song from the disco movie hit "Thank God It's Friday" made it on to the charts in 1978. Who sang it?

Answer: Love and Kisses

Billboard number 22, July 22, 1978. This was a disco studio group which had some success on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts in 1979-1977. This song though was the only one to make it onto the Billboard Top 100. The group was disbanded in 1979.
10. This 1979 entry onto the charts made the Top 5 in the summer of that year. Who sang "Makin' It"?

Answer: David Naughton

Billboard number five, July 21, 1979. This singer/actor actually starred in the movie "An American Werewolf in London" and also the TV sitcom "Makin It", which is where this theme song comes from. He has also appeared in such TV shows as "MacGyver", "Melrose Place", "Murder She Wrote", "JAG", and "Seinfeld".
