Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What drink were the Andrews Sisters touting in 1945?

Answer: Rum and Coca-Cola

"Rum and Coca-Cola" was a big hit record for the Andrews Sisters, ranking number one on the "Billboard U.S. Pop Singles" chart for ten weeks. It was a calypso song written by two prominent calypso singers, Lord Invader and Lionel Belasco.
2. What did Hank Williams find in his beer?

Answer: a tear

In his short, 16-year career (1937-1953), Hank Williams, Sr. wrote and sang some of the best-loved songs of Country and Honky-Tonk music. "There's a Tear in My Beer" was recorded in 1950 but not released until 1989. A 1988 music video paired him electronically with his son, Hank, Jr. singing the song. There were too many beers in Hank's life; he died in 1953 of complications from alcohol and drugs.
3. Be careful, don't spill that, it'll stain the carpet! But what did Eric Burdon and War tell us to spill?

Answer: wine

After splitting up with the Animals, Eric Burdon recorded two albums with War, credited as Eric Burdon & War. "Spill the Wine" was their first hit record, released in 1970. Supposedly, the idea for the song came when someone spilled some wine on a keyboard during a practice session.
4. If you have a whiskey drink, a vodka drink, a lager drink and a cider drink, you'll get knocked down all right! Which group warned us about the dangers of "Tubthumping"?

Answer: Chumbawamba

Sometimes known by the lyric "I Get Knocked Down", the song "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba tells of the results of consuming a lot of alcohol in one evening. It was a hit for them in 1997.
5. "The Days of Wine and Roses" was a popular 1962 movie. The theme song of the same name has been recorded by several people. Of these musicians, who had a hit record with it?

Answer: Andy Williams

Andy Williams took "The Days of Wine and Roses" to number nine on the "Billboard Middle-Road Singles" chart in 1963. The song's co-writer, Henry Mancini also recorded it.
6. "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One ___". What is the missing drink here?

Answer: Beer

Beer is the missing drink. The song was originally recorded by Amos Milburn in 1953; John Lee Hooker and George Thorogood and the Destroyers also took turns at recording it.
7. What drink do you think Snoop Doggy Dogg might like?

Answer: gin and juice

From Snoop Doggy Dogg's (aka Snoop Dogg) debut album came "Gin and Juice". It was a top ten record. Music channel VH-1 listed it as number eight of the "100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop".
8. What kind of celestial or atmospheric event was Oasis looking for in 1996?

Answer: champagne supernova

"Champagne Supernova" was from the Oasis album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory". Though released as a single in only three countries, its music video was released on a larger scale, allowing it to reach number one on "Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks" chart.
9. Who claimed to have gone "Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo"?

Answer: Tracy Byrd

Tracy Byrd was obviously using hyperbole in his song "Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo", saying that he drank about ten (double) shots of tequila and then started more drinking and counting them over again. Everybody knows that the real lyrics should be "One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor".
10. Time to sober up before we leave. What did Bob Dylan want us to have " 'fore we go to the valley below"?

Answer: One More Cup of Coffee

"One More Cup of Coffee" was from Bob Dylan's 1976 album "Desire". The album stayed in the number one spot on the "Billboard Pop Albums" chart for five weeks. Emmylou Harris performed a duet with Dylan on this song and on most of the other songs in the album.
