Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song by Ratt featured these lyrics: "Well, gun fighter, you think twice Are you fast, you heed my advice I drink whiskey, you say goodnight I'll put an end, to this here fight"?

Answer: Wanted Man

Ratt were formed in San Diego in 1976 and played locally for a few years. They moved to Los Angeles to pursue better chances at making it big when the hair metal scene started to prosper.
Ratt had several line-up changes over the years. One past member, Jake E. Lee, went on to join Ozzy Osbourne's band as lead guitarist.
2. Complete this opening line to Ozzy Osbourne's song "Suicide Solution": "Wine is fine but whiskey's ______".

Answer: quicker

"Suicide Solution" can be found on the Ozzy Osbourne album titled "Blizzard of Ozz". The album featured the late Randy Rhoads on lead guitar along with Bob Daisley on bass and Lee Kerslake on drums. This album contained the hits "Mr. Crowley" and "Crazy Train". Randy Rhoads was on path to become a huge success when his life was cut short in March of 1982 after an airplane crash.

The airplane which carried Rhoads and the touring hair dresser attempted to "buzz" the tour bus when the wing contacted the top of the bus, sending the plane spiraling into a nearby garage, killing all three people on board instantly.
3. Which song by The Doors is sometimes referred to as "Whisky Bar" due to the lyric "show me the way to the next whisky bar"?

Answer: Alabama Song

The Doors were formed in Los Angeles, CA when Ray Manzarek and Jim Morison met on the shores of Venice Beach in California. "Alabama Song" was not an original composition from Jim Morrison, but written for Bertolt Brecht's "Hauspostille" in 1927.
David Bowie did a scaled down version of the song, which was a minor UK hit in 1979.
4. Believe it or not, the band Guns n' Roses would reference whiskey in one of their songs. In which song from "Appetite for Destruction" did Axl Rose claim that he was innocent and that you could "take that one to heart"?

Answer: Out Ta Get Me

"Out Ta Get Me" had the lyrics:
"Some people got a chip on their shoulder
An some would say it was me
But I didn't buy that fifth of whiskey
That you gave me
So I'd be quick to disagree".
The song was written about the trouble Axl got himself into as a young man growing up in Indiana. The album "Appetite for Destruction" was one of the greatest selling hard rock records of all time with sales in excess of 28 million worldwide. This album was the debut for Guns N' Roses, released in 1987.
5. Which band released the song that began with these lyrics: "I don't want to drink my whisky like you do I don't need to spend my money but still do"?

Answer: Quiet Riot

The song "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" was written by Jim Lea and Noddy Holder and originally appeared on the Slade album titled "Slayed?".
Quiet Riot recorded this song for their 1984 release "Condition Critical". Another Slade tune had been previously recorded titled "Cum on Feel the Noize" on the band's breakthrough album "Metal Health" a year prior.
6. Which song had Kid Rock "sippin' whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow"?

Answer: All Summer Long

From the album "Rock N Roll Jesus", released in October of 2007, the song "All Summer Long" is a mix of four songs, all assembled into one pretty good country rock song. The songs "Sweet Home Alabama" (Lynyrd Skynyrd), "Werewolves of London" (Warren Zevon), "I Want You Back" (The Jackson 5) and "Take the Money and Run" (The Steve Miller Band) were all sampled in this song.
Kid Rock, by the way, was born Robert James Ritchie on January 17, 1971 in Romeo, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. He grew up in a wealthy family and not "on the streets" as he may want you to believe.
7. AC/DC have had several songs mentioning whiskey. Those guys sure must know how to party. In addition to whiskey, which other two potent potables are mentioned in the opening verse to the song "Have a Drink on Me"?

Answer: Gin and Brandy

"Whiskey, gin and brandy
With a glass I'm pretty handy
I'm trying to walk a straight line
On sour mash and cheap wine
So join me for a drink boys
We're gonna make a big noise"
The album "Back in Black" was the first to feature Brian Johnson after the death of Bon Scott (from suffocating on his own vomit after a night of hard drinking). The album was hugely successful for the band based on the title track and the song "You Shook Me All Night Long". AC/DC have had great success with songs about drinking over their long career.
8. Can you guess the Iron Maiden song featuring this verse: "Pull 'er here at the Bottle Top Whiskey, dancing, disco hop Now all the boys are after me And that's the way it's gonna be"?

Answer: Running Free

"Running Free" was found on the debut, self titled, album by Iron Maiden. Released in 1980, the album featured Paul Di'Anno on vocals instead of the more familiar Bruce Dickinson. The song "Running Free" is one of the only early songs from Iron Maiden that they still deploy on the masses during live concerts.
9. The song "City Boy Blues", by Motley Crue, makes mention of taking "a swig of whiskey", not that unlikely of a scenario based on what I've read of the group. On which album did this song appear?

Answer: Theatre of Pain

The album "Theatre of Pain" featured the hit songs "Smokin' in the Boy's Room" and "Home Sweet Home". The album was the third release from Motley Crue. The album was dedicated to Razzle from the band Hanoi Rocks. Razzle was killed in a car crash at the hands of Mr. Vince Neil, lead singer of Motley Crue. Vince was drunk while driving his high performance luxury De Tomosa Pantera. Neil was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter.

He was sentenced to 30 days in jail (he did 15), five years probation and had to pay over 2 million dollars to the victims' families.
10. The members of Aerosmith were certainly no strangers to whiskey (or other intoxicating vices for that matter). According to the song "Reefer Headed Woman", how many fifths of whiskey would be required for the singer to reach half the intoxication of the woman in the title?

Answer: 2

As can be heard in the song:
"Lord I got to drink me two fifths of whiskey
Just to get just to get half as high".
The song "Reefer Headed Woman" can be found on the 1979 release "Night in the Ruts", the last album to feature Joe Perry on guitar until his return in 1985 for the album "Done With Mirrors".
