Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which UK singer did The Cardigans collaborate with on their hit single 'Burning Down the House'?

Answer: Tom Jones

A great pop song that reached number seven in the UK charts back in 1999.
2. 'What a Waste', 'I Want to be Straight' and 'Hit me with your Rhythm Stick'. Which Band?

Answer: Ian Dury and the Blockheads

Ian Dury did a lot of work for UNICEF and was an ambassador for mass inoculation programmes helping to prevent the spread of polio. Dury was a sufferer. Sadly, Ian died on March 27th, 2000.
3. Which Liverpudlian band had hits in the 80s with 'Rescue', 'The Cutter' and 'A Promise'?

Answer: Echo and the Bunnymen

All of these bands are of course from Liverpool. Ian McCulloch went solo in 1988 with moderate success before reforming the 'Bunnymen' in 1997.
4. On which 'Goldfrapp' album would you find these songs 'Deep Honey', 'Strict Machine' and 'Train'?

Answer: Black Cherry

Cool, Sexy Disco at its best!
5. Which band sang these songs: 'Get Myself Arrested' and 'Rhythm and Blues Alibi'?

Answer: Gomez

'Gomez' have made some excellent albums, 'Bring it on' and 'Liquid Skin' to name two of them. I added 'Babyshambles' to the choices for a joke as Pete Docherty seems to be getting himself arrested with alarming regularity.
6. Which Bob Dylan song did P J Harvey cover on her 'Rid Of Me' album?

Answer: Highway 61 Revisited

Surprisingly, Polly has never had a top ten hit in the UK charts, though her albums usually chart higher then her singles.
7. 'I Don't Know Why I Love You' and 'Shine On' were hits for which band?

Answer: House Of Love

Guy Chambers and Terry Vickers reformed 'The House of Love' in 2005 releasing the single 'I Love You Too Much' and the album 'Days Run Away'.
8. Which was the only Housemartins single to top the UK charts?

Answer: Caravan of Love

Paul Heaton of course went on to have many hits with The Beautiful South after the demise of The Housemartins. Norman Cook also had success with Beats International before becoming Fat Boy Slim.
9. Remember Madchester? Which band had hits with 'This is how it Feels', 'Joe' and 'Please be Cruel'?

Answer: Inspiral Carpets

Interestingly, Noel Gallagher was a roadie for The Inspiral Carpets for two years back in the early 90s before he formed Oasis.
10. 'News of the World', 'The Eton Rifles' and 'That's Entertainment', were hits for which UK band?

Answer: The Jam

The Jam were great in my opinion, though I've never cared for The Style Council or Paul Weller's solo efforts.
