Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "You've been out painting the town / Ah ah baby, been stepping around"

Answer: Honey Don't

A Carl Perkins song from 1956, the Beatles recorded in in 1964. Though John Lennon had sung lead on the song in concert, Ringo was tasked with performing it in front of a recording microphone. It was included on the UK release of "Beatles for Sale" in 1964 and the "Beatles '65 album in North America in...um...1965.
2. "It's so easy for a girl like you to lie / Tell me why"

Answer: What Goes On

Ringo picked up a song writing credit for this song; it was attributed to Lennon-McCartney/Starkey. As a single it was the B-side of "Nowhere Man"; also on the UK version of "Rubber Soul" and the North America-only album "Yesterday and Today"; all of this in 1966.
3. "And our friends are all on board / Many more of them live next door"

Answer: Yellow Submarine

A wildly successful song in 1966, it was written mostly by Paul McCartney with Ringo in mind as the singer. It was coupled with "Eleanor Rigby" for a single, which reached number one most everywhere except in the U.S. where it got to number two on the "Billboard Hot 100".

Then it was on the "Revolver" album in 1966, then they made a movie out of it so it was on the "Yellow Submarine" movie soundtrack album in 1969.
4. "Tell me that you love me baby / Let me understand"

Answer: I Wanna Be Your Man

Primarily written by Paul McCartney, John Lennon helped finish it up. Lennon later said that neither he nor McCartney really liked it much so they pawned it off on the Rolling Stones (who managed to bend it to their liking) and then tossed it to Ringo to sing lead on their own Beatles version. What great guys, huh?
5. "My girl says when I kiss her lips / Gets a thrill through her fingertips"

Answer: Boys

One of the Beatles' early songs, "Boys" was a remake of a Shirelles' song from 1960. It was the first song Ringo sang lead on for a Beatles album ("Please Please Me" in 1963).
6. "Well, if you don't want my peaches honey / Please don't shake my tree"

Answer: Matchbox

Another song written by Carl Perkins, of whom the Beatles were big fans, the lead vocal was originally done by Pete Best. When Ringo replaced him as the group's drummer, he also replaced him as singer on "Matchbox".
7. "Well, I'll bet you I'm gonna be a big star / Might win an Oscar, you can't never tell"

Answer: Act Naturally

The Beatles led rock and roll through the turbulent 1960s but they latched onto this country and western song by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. The Beatles performed it on the "Ed Sullivan Show" and the Shea Stadium concert in New York City in 1965. Then it was scheduled to be the A-side of the next Beatles single...until Paul McCartney wrote "Yesterday".
8. "I said that's alright I'm waiting here / Just waiting to hear from you"

Answer: Don't Pass Me By

Ringo got to shine on this song. He not only sang lead on it, but he wrote it too, all by himself, his first solo writing effort. It was on "The Beatles", usually known as "The White Album". One couplet in the song: "You were in a car crash, and you lost your hair" was pointed to by "Paul Is Dead" conspiracy theorists as further evidence that McCartney had died and been replaced with a look-alike, although it was a well-known British idiom of the time; losing one's hair was to become excited or nervous.
9. "We would sing and dance around / Because we know we can't be found"

Answer: Octopus's Garden

Ringo is credited as the songwriter, although George Harrison did help him with it. It was his second solo songwriting credit. It appeared on "Abbey Road", the album with the iconic cover with Paul walking barefoot across an intersection.
10. "Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song / And I'll try not to sing out of key"

Answer: With a Little Help From My Friends

Call him Ringo or call him Billy Shears, but Mr. Starkey sang lead on the second song on "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", often considered the best rock music album ever recorded. Lennon and McCartney wrote it for Ringo, who made it his song, that is until Joe Cocker heard it and thought he might like to record a version of it.
