Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band sang a song about "Sitting on the sofa with a sister or two" with Lovely Rita, the meter maid?

Answer: The Beatles

The Beatles recorded "Lovely Rita" in 1967 for their album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Legend has it that Paul McCartney received a parking ticket from a female traffic warden (meter maid) and decided to write a song about her. The album itself was the band's eighth album and did extremely well on the charts, topping the UK and US album charts as well as the West German, Swedish, Norwegian, Canadian and Australian charts.

"Told her I would really like to see her again
Got the bill and Rita paid it
Took her home I nearly made it
Sitting on the sofa with a sister or two"
2. This band recorded the song "No Need to Argue" where they "remember all the things we once shared, Watching T.V. movies on the living room armchair". Who are they?

Answer: The Cranberries

"No Need to Argue" was recorded on the album of the same name by Irish band, The Cranberries, in 1994. It was the band's second album charted well all over the world, achieving a first place on the Australia, Austria, France, Germany and New Zealand charts and second position on the UK charts. It was certified platinum in a number of countries, including a seven times platinum certification in the US. This equated to over seven million copies of the album being sold.
3. System of a Down ask "Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?" in which song from their 2001 "Toxicity" album?

Answer: Chop Suey!

"Chop Suey!" is from System of a Down's second album "Toxicity". The song was originally named "Suicide", but the name was changed by the band in order to be more radio friendly. The only thing that the song has in common with its title, is a part of the music video where lead vocalist Serj Tankian eats chop suey with fans. The song was placed on a list of post-9/11 inappropriate titles by Clear Channel Radio and this affected the song's ultimate chart placing, just managing a 76th position on the US Billboard chart.

"Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little make-up
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up (hide the scars to fade away the...)
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable"
4. The J. Geils Band are in a bad way in their song "Centerfold". What happened in the classroom which caused him such consternation when his angel "Slipped me notes under the desk" that he "was shy, I turned away, before she caught my eye"?

Answer: While I was thinkin' about her dress

The J. Geils Band recorded the song "Centerfold" for their 1981 album "Freeze Frame". A very popular song, it reached number one on US Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as a top spot on the Australian and Canadian charts. It also managed a number three position on the UK singles chart.

All the answers are lines from the song:

"Slipped me notes under the desk
While I was thinkin' about her dress
I was shy, I turned away
Before she caught my eye"
5. In The Beatles' song "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" they sing, "She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh. I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep _____. Where did he sleep?

Answer: In the bath

The Beatles recorded "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" for their 1965 album "Rubber Soul". The song is notable for being the band's first song recorded with a sitar as an instrument. The album itself did very well on the charts, reaching top position in Australia, West Germany, the UK and US charts.
6. Depeche Mode recorded the song "Stripped" for their 1986 album "Black Celebration" where they sing "Let me hear you make decisions, Without your television, Let me hear you speaking just for me". Which German band covered the song in 1997?

Answer: Rammstein

Depeche Mode's "Stripped", released as a single in 1986 proved to be the band's sixth consecutive UK Top 20 charting single. A number of different artist have covered this song, but Rammstein's cover, released on their 1997 album "Sehnsucht" is my favourite.

It was the first Rammstein song to be sung in English and they courted some controversy, as the band is wont to do, for using footage Leni Riefenstahl's Nazi propaganda film "Olympia" in their music video.
7. Dire Straits are installing and moving appliances in their 1985 song "Money For Nothing". Microwave ovens, colour televisions and which other appliance?

Answer: Refrigerators

Dire Straits recorded "Money For Nothing" for their 1985 album "Brothers In Arms". This song was interesting for a number of points. Firstly, English musician Sting sang backing vocals on the song. Secondly, the music video was largely animated using computer animation and it was the first music video to be aired on MTV Europe. It reached number one on three separate US charts, the US Billboard Hot 100, US Billboard Top Rock Tracks and US Cash Box. The video won video of the year at the MTV Video Music Awards and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1986.

"We got to install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We got to move these refrigerators
We got to move these colour TV's"
8. What kind of bed does Bob Dylan ask the lady to lay across in his 1969 song "Lay Lady Lay"?

Answer: Big brass bed

The picture is of a group of brass weights.

"Lay Lady Lay" was included on Bob Dylan's 1969 "Nashville Skyline" album. It was originally supposed to feature on the soundtrack of the 1969 film "Midnight Cowboy" featuring Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, but was not completed in time. A number of different artists have recorded cover versions of this song, the most unusual of these being industrial heavy metal band Ministry, recorded for their album "Filth Pig" in 1996.

"Lay, lady, lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Lay, lady, lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine"
9. In their song "Enter Sandman", Metallica sing "Hush little baby, don't say a word, And never mind that noise you heard, It's just the ______ under your bed In your closet, in your head". Which creature/s fill in the blank?

Answer: Beasts

"Enter Sandman" is from Metallica's eponymous album in 1991, also commonly referred to as the "Black" album due to its entirely black cover. The song reached fourth place on the US Billboard Hot Single Sales, but only managed a first place in Finland. The song features on 'Rolling Stone' magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list, the VH1 "40 Greatest Metal Songs of All Time" list, 'Q' magazine's "The 100 Songs That Changed The World" list and was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock" list.
