Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these songs is NOT by JOURNEY?

Answer: How Do You Do

"Patiently" was the first tune Steve Perry wrote with the band, about his determination to become a member. "Kohoutek" and "Nickel and Dime" were on earlier albums.
2. Which song often immediately follows "Feeling That Way?"

Answer: Anytime

The first song ends, and the second song begins, both with acapella (only vocal) harmonies. "Feeling that way ... Ooh anytime that you want me ..."
3. Which song contains the following lyrics? "Yesterday was a good day, It's after midnight and I've got you on my mind."

Answer: Just the Same Way

Nice rollicking piano on this song from the "Evolution" album.
4. Which Journey song has "nana's" that seem to go on forever at the end?

Answer: Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'

I'm sure the easy singalong melodies helped make the tune popular, but they do seem to go on a little long.
5. Which song do you hear Rodney Dangerfield jamming to on the golf course in the movie, "Caddyshack?"

Answer: Anyway You Want It

A huge hit from the "Departure" album.
6. What city is the song "Lights" about? Upon its recording, not originally.

Answer: San Francisco

San Francisco is hometown to most of the band. "When the lights go down in the city, and the sun shines on the bay...." Steve originally wrote the song about L.A. when he was living there. "....and the sun shines on L.A."
7. What song contains the lyrics "I told you once, yes, I told you twice but you never listen to my advice. I catch you walkin' with that boy again I'm gonna set you free."?

Answer: Walks Like a Lady

Great live version of this song on the "Captured" album featuring the blues licks of Neil Schon (guitar) and Greg Rollie (keys).
8. Which song has neither Greg Rollie or Jonathon Cain playing keys?

Answer: The Party's Over (Hopelessly in Love)

This song was recorded in a studio right after Greg Rollie left the band, and was included as a bonus track on the live album "Captured." A session player filled in on keys.
9. Which of these songs went highest in the charts?

Answer: Open Arms

This song was written by Jonathon Cain when he was still a member of The Babys, but John Waite rejected the melody as "too syrupy." Fortunately, the guys in Journey recorded it. It's regarded as one of the first 'power ballads' ever, and reached #2 on the charts.
10. Which song contains the lyrics: "I don't mind, darlin', if you're feelin' fancy and free. I don't mind, little baby, cause your sister's lookin' real good to me."?

Answer: Where Were You

Neil Schon notes that this song had influences gained from AC/DC while Journey was touring as the opening act. It's not very difficult to imagine Angus Young playing the intro guitar riff! It's actually quite similar to the AC/DC song "Sin City."
11. "Just a small town girl..." are the first lyrics to what Journey song?

Answer: Don't Stop Believin'

"....living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train going anywhere." This song from the "Escape" album hit #9 on the charts.
12. If you listen to the lyrics closely, which song is about being out on the road touring, away from a loved one?

Answer: Faithfully

The song, whose melody came to Jonathon Cain in a dream, was meant to convey to his wife that he's not cheating while he's away.
13. Which song was on the album "Frontiers"?

Answer: Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)

Cain and Perry started on the song one night, and the rest of the band worked on it the next afternoon at a soundcheck during the "Escape" tour. Journey performed the partly-finished song that evening in concert, long before it was recorded on the next album.
14. Which Journey song contains the lyrics "So many stormy nights, so many wrongs or rights. Neither could change their headstrong way."?

Answer: Who's Cryin' Now

Written by Perry and Cain, this song highlights the wonderfully lyrical guitar leads of Neal Schon.
15. Which of the following was NOT a member of Journey after 1998?

Answer: Steve Perry

In the late 90s, the band was forced to replace Steve Perry(!), who's illness kept the band from touring. He was replaced by Steve Augeri. Cain (keys), Valory (bass), and Schon (guitar) are also joined by Deen, who replaced Steve Smith on drums. The newest album "Red 13" is to be released by early 2003.
