The song was released in 1985 as a single, and in March of that year it reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. In the 1985 movie "Vision Quest", the song was featured on the soundtrack. The first time Journey played the song live was for a child, Kenny Sykaluk. He was suffering from cystic fibrosis. After his mother contacted the band, the members visited him in the hospital. The boy died the day after the band visited him.
