Journey released three albums pre-Steve Perry, none of which sold well. The first was the 1975 "Journey", the second "Look Into the Future" in 1976, and the third was "Next" from 1977.

The main riff of "Carry on Wayward Son" does have some similarities to Journey's 1976 track "I'm Gonna Leave You". Guitarist George Tickner co-wrote the song with the band, but left the band before Journey recorded the song.

"For You" would later be released on Fleischman's solo album "Perfect Stranger". Journey would release the song on their "Time 3" compilation.

Answer: Aynsley Dunbar

Aynsley Dunbar was Journey's drummer for their first four albums. He was originally slated to be the drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, but Jimi was unable to decide between him and Mitch Mitchell. A coin toss awarded the role to Mitchell.

Dunbar recorded numerous albums with John Mayall & Bluesbreakers, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Ian Hunter, Sammy Hagar, Jefferson Starship, White Snake, UFO, and Jake E. Lee.

In 2008, Journey had an apparent resurgence. They licensed "Don't Stop Believing" for various TV appearances, including the series finale of "The Sopranos". Twenty-seven years after its release on the 1981 album "Escape", they had the best selling catalog song in iTunes history. A catalog song is iTunes terminology for a track that was recorded before the digital era.

Answer: Open Arms

"Escape" was the first album to feature Jonathan Cain. He wrote the melody to "Open Arms" while he was with The Babys, but according to John Waite, frontman for The Babys, the melody was "sentimental rubbish". When Cain joined Journey, he finished writing the song with Steve Perry.

The band nearly didn't include it on the album, because according to Neil Schon "it was so far removed from anything [Journey] had ever attempted to record before".

Answer: Sand Castles

Of the nine tracks on "Dream, After Dream", only the last song, "Little Girl" has full vocals. "Destiny" and "Sand Castles" have very limited vocals as well. The other six tracks are completely instrumental. "Little Girl" appeared as the B-Side to 1981's "Open Arms" single, and on 2006 was included on the "Departure" reissue.

Journey contributed "Only Solutions" and "1990's Theme" to the soundtrack. For years, due to tape deterioration, the songs were never mastered digitally, although they have since been digitally mastered. Journey has never released either track outside of their "Tron" soundtrack appearance. Supertramp was originally contracted for the contributions.

Answer: Trial by Fire

In 1996, the classic Journey lineup, who had not been together since the 1983 record "Frontiers", united to record "Trial by Fire". The album went to number three on the Billboard Top 200. Due to a hip injury, Perry was unable to tour. In 1998, Journey began looking for a new lead singer.

There are two additional songs found on some international versions of "Revelation". The first one is "Let it Take You Back". The second is "The Place in Your Heart", which appears on the Japanese version of "Revelation".
