Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Baby's good to me you know. She's happy as can be you know. She said so"

Answer: I Feel Fine

"I Feel Fine" was released in November of 1964, and a little more than a month later it became the Beatles' sixth number one from that year, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 the last week of December. The familiar opening note from the song was created by feedback from John Lennon's guitar, making it one of the first rock recordings to feature that effect.
2. "Last night I said these words to my girl"

Answer: Please Please Me

After John Lennon had finished writing "Please Please Me" he envisioned recording the song as a ballad, similar to the style of Roy Orbison, but the Beatles producer George Martin felt that it needed to be more upbeat if it was to have any chance of becoming a hit.

The band eventually recorded the song in a faster tempo and released it as a single in the US on February 7, 1963. The song failed to chart, but once Beatlemania began to spread in early 1964 "Please Please Me" was given a second release and this time the song became a hit, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in March of that year.
3. "I think I'm gonna be sad. I think It's today, yeah"

Answer: Ticket to Ride

Shortly after "Ticket to Ride" was released in April of 1965, it became the group's seventh consecutive number one on the UK Singles Chart and third consecutive single to top the Billboard Hot 100. The song, which was included on the soundtrack album from the band's second feature film "Help", was also the third of six straight singles the Beatles would place at the top the Billboard Hot 100, a feat that up to this point in time had never been accomplished.

In 1969 the Carpenters released a version of "Ticket to Ride" and it became the duo's first charting single, reaching number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 19 on their Easy Listening chart.
4. "Try to see it my way. Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on?"

Answer: We Can Work It Out

"We Can Work It Out", along with another Beatle classic "Day Tripper", were both recorded while the group was in studio working on their "Rubber Soul" LP. After a slight disagreement about which song should be released first, it was finally decided that for the first time in their brief career, the Beatles would release and promote both songs as part of a double A-side single. "We Can Work It Out" proved to be the more popular side, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in January of 1966, while "Day Tripper" stalled at number five.
5. "My love don't give me presents. I know that she's no peasant"

Answer: She's a Woman

"She's a Woman" was mainly written by Paul McCartney with some input from John Lennon, but as it was with all their songs it was credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was released as the flip side to "I Feel Fine" in November of 1964, but even though it was a B-side it did quite well for itself, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in late December of 1964.

The song was the last of 11 top ten hits the band placed on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964, which was a record at the time.
6. "Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins"

Answer: She's Leaving Home

Paul McCartney was inspired to write "She's Leaving Home" after reading an article in the Daily Mail about a teenage runaway. Recorded in March of 1967, it was included on their much heralded "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" LP. The song was one of the few instances where no member of the band played on the recording.

The instrumentation was performed by a string orchestra, with McCartney and John Lennon providing the vocals. The harp, which was featured prominently in the song, was played by Sheila Bromberg, making it the first time a female had played on a Beatles recording.
7. "You say yes, I say no. You say stop and I say go go go"

Answer: Hello, Goodbye

"Hello, Goodbye" was released in November of 1967, and was the first single the band issued following the death of their manager Brian Epstein in August of that year. The song was included on Capitol Records' US released version of the "Magical Mystery Tour" LP, which consisted of six songs from the "Magical Mystery Tour" movie soundtrack on side one, and five previously released non-album singles from 1967 on side two. "Hello, Goodbye" was a smash hit for the band, spending seven weeks at the top of UK Singles Chart and three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
8. "She's not a girl who misses much. Do do do do do do, oh yeah"

Answer: Happiness Is a Warm Gun

"Happiness Is a Warm Gun" was written by John Lennon and was included on the band's 1968 double LP "The Beatles", or as it's more commonly referred to, "The White Album". In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 1970, Lennon revealed where he got the idea for the song's rather unusual title.

In the article he said: "George Martin showed me a cover of a magazine that said 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun.' It was a gun magazine. I just thought it was a fantastic, insane thing to say. A warm gun means you just shot something." Despite wide speculation at the time that the song was about heroin, Lennon denied that it had anything to do with drugs.
9. "When I wake up early in the morning. Lift my head, I'm still yawning"

Answer: I'm Only Sleeping

"I'm Only Sleeping" was released in the US as part of the "Yesterday and Today" LP in June of 1966. In the UK, the song was included on the "Revolver" album, which was released in August of the same year. Written by John Lennon, the tune is simply about the joy of sleeping and staying in bed, which is something Lennon apparently loved doing.

The song is unique in that it features a reversed guitar solo by George Harrison, a technique the group also used effectively on another track from "Revolver", "Tomorrow Never Knows".
10. "Once there was a way, to get back homeward. Once there was a way to get back home. Sleep, little darling, do not cry"

Answer: Golden Slumbers

"Golden Slumbers" was written by Paul McCartney and is part of a medley of eight short songs that closes side two of the band's "Abbey Road" LP. McCartney wrote the music for the song, but the majority of the lyrics were based on a 17th century poem by Thomas Dekker entitled "Cradle Song". "Golden Slumbers", along with another track from the album "Carry That Weight", were recorded together in the same session in early July of 1969. John Lennon did not appear on either recording, as he was hospitalized in Scotland, recovering from injuries he received in a car accident.
