Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Now are you ready to grab the cradle. That tunnel vision - not television. Behind the curtain - out of the cupboard. You take the first train into the big world. Now will I find you now will you be there."

Answer: "This is Not a Love Song" - Public Image Ltd

Public Image Limited was formed after the Sex Pistols' demise in 1978 by singer John Lydon (aka. Johnny Rotten), dissident Clash guitar player Keith Levene, bass player Jah Wobble (aka. John Wardle) and drummer Jim Walker. When "This is not a Love Song" was released in 1983 - a UK #5 chart smash - nobody was left but Lydon.
2. "Caressing bent up to the jug again. With sheaths and pills. Invading all those stills. In a hovel of a bed. I will scream in vain. Oh please miss Lane. Leave me with some pain."

Answer: "Dark Entries" - Bauhaus

Bauhaus were heavily influenced by David Bowie, Roxy Music, T. Rex and The Velvet Underground, which they mixed up with some dark poetry and a bit of drama. Et voila: Goth music was born. Just don't ever call them goths to their face.
3. "Suicide is an urban disease. Spread by people and places like these. A quick self destruct from the 21st floor. A smell of gas through the kitchen door."

Answer: "Self Destruct" - Anne Clark

David Harrow wrote the music for most of Anne Clark's better known songs: "Sleeper in Metropolis", "Wallies", "True Love Tales". After he and Clark split up he changed his name to James Hardway and now he makes jazzy drum'n'bass music.
4. "Walk - in silence. Don't walk away - in silence. See the danger - always danger. Endless talking - life rebuilding. Don't walk away."

Answer: "Atmosphere" - Joy Division

When announcing Ian Curtis' death on the radio, famous English DJ John Peel chose to play this song afterwards. Not surprisingly, as it is one of Joy Division's most mournful and sad songs.
5. "I know it's out of fashion. And a trifle uncool. But I can't help it. I'm a romantic fool. It's a habit of mine. To watch the sun go down."

Answer: "Echo Beach" - Martha & the Muffins

Canadians Martha & the Muffins actually had two singers named Martha: Martha Johnson (vocals, keyboards) and Martha Ladly (vocals, keyboards, trombone). Their drummer was named Tim Gane, not to be confused with the guitar player of Stereolab.
6. "Help me, somebody help me. I wonder where I am. I see my future before me. I'll hurt you when I can. It seems like I've been here before."

Answer: "Everything's Gone Green" - New Order

After singer Ian Curtis committed suicide, the rest of the band turned into New Order. New Order released the best selling 12" single ever - "Blue Monday" (1983) - which however did not make any money, because of the elaborate and expensive sleeve design, depicting a floppy disc.
7. "Wanna be the ruler of the galaxy. Wanna be the king of the universe. Let's meet and have a baby now! Wanna be the empress of fashion. Wanna be the president of Moscow. Let's meet and have a baby now!"

Answer: "Song for a Future Generation" - the B-52's

When singer Cindy Wilson left the band in 1990, the remaining three members went on tour with singer Julee Cruise as a replacement. Cruise is mainly known for her contributions to the soundtrack to David Lynch's "Twin Peaks". In 1998 Wilson returned to promote the greatest hits package "Time Capsule".
8. "Cold in head. But warm in the heart. You could find pleasure. You could find displeasure. There is no sound here. But the rumbling waves. Of the polar sea."

Answer: "No Shuffle" - Front 242

Other Belgian bands may have scored bigger chart successes (Technotronic, Plastic Bertrand, Vaya Con Dios, Axelle Red) but Front 242 is without a doubt the most influential Belgian band ever. They invented Electronic Body music and influenced Industrial, New-Beat and Techno.

It is also the only Belgian band of which you're almost certain to find some records stored in record stores outside their native country.
9. "And I think of your eyes in the dark and I see the star. And I look to the light and I might wonder right where you are. All the gods in the sky way up high see the world spinning 'round. But the sun and the moon and the stars are so far from the ground."

Answer: "Homosapien" - Pete Shelley

Buzzcocks frontman Pete Shelley released the "Homosapien" album in 1981. Most of the songs on it were supposedly written for the Buzzcocks fourth album, which was never finished due to record company interference. Shelley split the band up instead. In 1989 they reformed and have since recorded more albums than during their original run.
10. "Oh I hear her walkin'. Walkin' barefoot cross the floor-boards. All through this lonesome night. I hear her crying too. Hot tears come splashin' down. Leaking through the cracks. Down upon my face. I catch'em in my mouth! I catch'em in my mouth! I catch'em in my mouth! Walk'n'cry. Walk'n'cry!"
