Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is not one of the "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"?

Answer: Leave early in the morning

"50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" was written by Paul Simon and is on the 1975 album "Still Crazy After All These Years". It was written after his divorce from Peggy Harper.
2. Who did Rolling Stone list as the 50th greatest guitarist of all time, in their 2003 article "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"?

Answer: Pete Townshend

In a special collector's issue published in August 2003, Eddie Van Halen was number 70, George Harrison was number 21, and Johnny Ramone was number 16. The top three (in order of 3, 2, 1) were B.B. King, Duane Allman, and Jimi Hendrix. For the most part, I completely disagree with this list. I think Rolling Stone confused "greatest guitarists" with "most influential musicians/ public figures". Like, I love Kurt Cobain - but I don't think he quite earned the title of the 12th greatest guitarist of all time.
3. In which 50 Cent song are they going to "sip Bacardi like it's your birthday"?

Answer: In Da Club

"In Da Club" was the first official single from 50 Cent's debut CD "Get Rich or Die Tryin'"(2002). It was his first number-one single in the US, and reached number three in the UK.
4. According to a song by Monty Harper, he has fifty ways to do what?

Answer: say no to drugs

Harper is an American singer-songwriter, who writes and performs his tunes for children. The song "Fifty Ways to Say No" is not available on any recordings, but the lyrics are posted on www.montyharper.com.
5. The Tragically Hip song "Fifty Mission Cap" is about which former professional hockey player?

Answer: Bill Barilko

The song tells the story of how Barilko, a former Toronto Maple Leafs player, disappeared in August 1951 while on a fishing trip. His last goal scored in April had won the Leafs a Stanley Cup - and they didn't win another until 1962, ironically the year Barilko's body was finally found near Cochrane, Ontario. "Fifty Mission Cap" can be found on The Hip's 1992 album "Fully Completely".
6. In 2003, VH1 showed a five-part mini-series hosted by William Shatner called "VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders". What was number 50 on the list?

Answer: "I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls

Out of a list of 100 songs, "Relax" was number 41, "Electric Avenue" was number 91, and "Whip It" was number 24. "The Macarena" by Los Lobos was number one on the list. "I Touch Myself" was released by The Divinyls in 1990 on a self-titled album. The song was covered in 2006 by Tiffani Wood.
7. What was ranked as the 50th greatest song of all-time by Rolling Stone magazine in a November 2004 special collector's issue?

Answer: "The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

The votes were cast by 172 musicians, critics, and music industry personnel. "London Calling" made number 15 on the list, "Come Together" was number 202, and "More Than A Feeling" just barely made the list at number 500. According to this list, the number one song of all time is "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan. "The Tracks of My Tears" was recorded in 1965 for the album "Going to A Go-Go".
8. Which of the following musicians was not born in 1950?

Answer: Simon Le Bon

Peter Gabriel was born on February 13, Stevie Wonder on May 13, and Steven Van Zandt on November 22. Simon Le Bon was born on October 27, 1958.
9. Which was number 50 on Rolling Stone's original 2003 list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"?

Answer: "Here's Little Richard" by Little Richard

This list was first made public in November 2003 as a special collector's issue of the magazine, and was later published in book form in 2005. The book's introduction was written by Steven Van Zandt and the order of the albums was slightly modified in some cases.

The albums were ranked by 273 musicians, critics and industry figures and they chose The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" as number one. "Abbey Road" made number 14 on the list, "Paranoid" was number 130, and "Louder Than Bombs" was only number 365. "Here's Little Richard" was Little Richard's debut album and was released in 1957.
10. The song "50 Candles" was done by which early '90s group?

Answer: Boyz II Men

The song can be found on their 1994 album "II". It was the third best selling album in the US in 1995.
