Answer: I'll Never Get Over You

Johnny Kidd and The Pirates reached number four in 1963 with "I'll Never Get Over You"

Their number one was "Shakin' All Over" in 1960. It was a departure from the soft rock of the teen idols of the time and I can hear the beginnings of the future Merseysound in their music. Unfortunately after a resurgence of their music in 1963 and 1964 Johnny (real name Frederick Heath) was killed in a road crash in 1966.

Answer: Foot Tapper

"Foot Tapper" was The Shadows last number one hit in 1963. They replaced themselves at number one backing Cliff Richard on "Summer Holiday".

The Shadows are by far the top instrumental group of all time on the UK chart, with 16 top ten hits from 1960 to 1981. They spent 16 weeks at number one in total. They added a lot more as Cliff Richard's backing group on many hits plus song writing and production duties.

Answer: Diamonds

"Footstomp" was the B-side of their number one hit "Diamonds". Jet Harris also had two solo chart hits and Tony Meehan had one solo chart hit.

Jet Harris and Tony Meehan replaced their former group The Shadows "Dance On" at number one with "Diamonds" at the end of January 1963. Their second single "Scarlett O'Hara" reached number two and their third and last single "Applejack" reached number four. All three singles spent 13 weeks each on the chart.

Answer: Don't Bring Me Down

"Don't Bring Me Down" reached number ten in 1964. "Honey I Need" was their next best at number 13 in 1965.

London group The Pretty Things, a punkier version of The Rolling Stones, were so underrated. They are one of those groups that missed the mid '60's bus as far as the charts go. They shoulda been contenders.
9. The Rockin' Berries had six UK chart hits in the '60's, only two made it to the top ten. Which one reached the highest on the chart?

Answer: He's In Town

"He's In Town" gave The Rockin' Berries their highest chart placing at number three in 1964. Their other top ten hit was "Poor Man's Son" in 1965.

The Rocking Berries came from Birmingham another hotbed of music in the 60's and 70's (The Move, E.L.O.). At a time when the most successful groups were writing some or all of there own songs the Berries went the same way as groups like The Searchers and faded after a couple of years in the limelight.
10. Chris Farlowe had six UK chart hits in the '60's, only one of them reached the top 20 and went all the way to number one. What was the name of that single?

Answer: Out Of Time

"Out Of Time" was Chris Farlowe's only top 20 hit and number one single. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Chris Farlowe from London was singing in the late '50's but had to wait until 1966 for this Jagger/Richard song. It should have been the start of a big chart career from this R&B soul singer but alas not. His version of "Handbags and Gladrags" is by far the best but only reached number 33 on the chart in 1967. That was his last chart entry until "Out Of Time" was re-released in 1975 and reached number 44.
