Punk Music Part 1 Trivia Quiz

The title song from the album of the same name. They were in the second wave of punk that brought us what is known as hardcore. And they are considered by some to exemplify the epitome of hardcore punk rock music. They were also known for their hardcore shows.

Answer: The Sisters Of Mercy

A quintessential gothic song that was a popular song in the underground club scene. It also received a decent amount of college radio air time. Especially on the late night fringe shows. 1983 release.

Answer: The Ramones

The group who made two minute songs popular again. This is one of my favorites with the unforgettable, great lyrics, "Now I guess I'll have to tell 'em, That I got no cerebellum". A true Punk classic.

Answer: Joy Division

A generally underrated group that lost their lead singer, Ian Curtis to an early and untimely death. The remaining members formed a different, and what would become a much more well known band, New Order.

Answer: The Dead Kennedys

They were one of the more melodic bands of the genre. Jello Biafra was the vocalist and front man. One of the many politically active, who were into the Punk scene. They have been involved in several profanity court cases.

Answer: X-Ray Spex

With their lead singer, the operatic trained, Poly Styrene. With a truly unique voice to go with their unique sound. There was no mistaking them. Possibly the first punk band to feature a brass instrument. They released only one album, but what an album it was.

Answer: Iggy Pop

What quiz about punk could be considered complete without at least one reference to the inimitable Iggy Pop. This was from the 1979 album of the same name. This album did not include The Stooges and was a solo effort.

Answer: The Stooges

From the album, The Stooges, featuring their front man Iggy Pop. Considered by some to be the first true punk rock album. Released in 1969. The better known song, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" came from this album. A real gem.

Answer: Black Flag

A hardcore band with one of the more unique sounds. Raw vocals with garage sounding yet melodic guitar riffs. They had a couple of different incarnations and yet kept that unique sound. The band that, though not an original member of the band, brought us Henry Rollins.

Answer: Flipper

Flipper was out of Los Angeles and a truly one of a kind band. With one of the great bass lines and the unforgettable chorus, this is one of my favorite songs from the era. Jello Biafra at one time was quoted as it being, "his favorite band".
