"Transistor Sister" was Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon's fifth US Top Forty single. He burst on the scene in 1959 with the Top Ten "Tallahassee Lassie". The highest he ever charted was Number Three with "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans" in 1959 and "Palisades Park" three years later.
After Dick Clark heard his recording of "Tallahassee Lassie" he produced another version using pounding drum beats that earned Cannon the nickname "Boom Boom". The moniker stuck and Freddy's frequent appearances on "American Bandstand" helped propel his career. His last US Top Forty was in 1965 when he sang, "Action" the theme for the "Where the Action Is" television show.

"The Twist" was played frequently by a Baltimore Disc jockey and came to the attention of Dick Clark. Clark tried to book Ballard and his band on his show but they were unavailable.
