Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Of the following rock bands, who is it that sings these tunes: "Let's Get Rocked," "Rock of Ages," "Photograph," and "Animal?"

Answer: Def Leppard

"Let's Get Rocked" is from the album "Adrenalize," "Animal" is from "Hysteria," and "Rock of Ages" and "Photograph" are both from "Pyromania." All four songs, however, can also be found together on "Vault: Def Leppard's Greatest Hits."
2. This artist was primarily most popular in the eighties era, but I still love him just as much today as I did then. Some of his most popular songs include "Don't Talk to Strangers," "Love Somebody," and "Human Touch" to name just a few. Who is he?

Answer: Rick Springfield

Most known for his song, "Jessie's Girl," and his soap opera character, 'Dr. Noah Drake' from "General Hospital," Rick Springfield is indeed my teenage idol! I got to see Rick in concert three times back when I was a teenager and have seen him twice in my adulthood.

In my opinion, Rick has only gotten better with age, and he's now able to interact with his audiences on a more personal level. For example, girls are now invited up on stage to help him sing the song "I Get Excited," and he also walks around within the crowd giving fans a rememberable high-five or hug, and sometimes some may even get to give Rick an occasional kiss on the cheek.
3. Some of my favorite songs by this next artist/band (though a bit hard to choose for I truly love them all) would have to include "Please Mr. Please," "Let Me Be There," "Don't Stop Believin'," "I Honestly Love You," "Don't Cut Me Down," and "Sam." Who is this?

Answer: Olivia Newton-John

Most remembered for her role as "Sandy" in the hit movie, "Grease," Olivia is, in my opinion, truly remarkable. Her music has been loved by millions dating as far back as the mid sixties. She has won many, many various types of awards throughout her career over the years, and was awarded her very first Grammy award in 1974 for one of my all-time favorite songs by her entitled "Let Me Be There." That same year, she also won Country Music Association's "Top Female Vocalist of the Year" award in which has been a title award she has won numerous times from others as well.

A great compilation of Olivia's hits that is again of one of my favorites is her "Magic-The Very Best of Olivia Newton-John" album. It has a lot of her older music along with some of her well-known loved hits from the movie "Grease," such as her and John Travolta's "You're the One That I Want," "Summer Nights," and her beautiful solo song of "Hopelessly Devoted to You." I personally believe it's a really great CD to have for anyone who loves Olivia's music, for I love every song on it and give it my highest recommendation.
4. Who sings these songs: "I Hate Myself for Loving You," "Cherry Bomb," "Light of Day," and "I Love Rock 'n' Roll?"

Answer: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is probably Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' most known and remembered song. In 1982, it hit #1 on the Billboard charts and stayed there for a total of seven weeks. "I Hate Myself For Loving You" is another well-known remembered song that has been released onto six different albums of theirs.

They include: "Up Your Alley," "Do You Wanna Touch Me," (of which also includes the song of the same name that is amongst another favorite loved by fans) "Great Hits," "Fit to be Tied: Great Hits," the "Striptease" movie soundtrack, and "USA." The song "Light of Day" is from the movie of the same name, released in 1987, that Joan Jett herself starred in along with Michael J. Fox. All the songs listed here can all be found together on Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "Fit to be Tied: Great Hits" album along with other such songs as "Crimson and Clover," "Bad Reputation," and a personal favorite of mine entitled "Little Liar."
5. My all-time favorite female country artist is this woman whose songs include such ones as "Here's Some Love," "Blood Red and Going Down," "Some Kind of Trouble," and "Walking Shoes." Who is she?

Answer: Tanya Tucker

Tanya started out back in 1972 with her very first hit of "Delta Dawn" that most of her fans still love today, and many of them who even still consider it to be their favorite by her (myself included).
If you just may happen to love Tanya as much as I, you may be interested in checking out my other much more detailed quiz all about her songs entitled "Name that 'Tanya' Tune."
6. This next band stands above all others as my all-time favorite and most likely always will. I've heard some people even classify them as the ultimate eighties hair band, in which I most definitely agree. Some songs of theirs include "Unskinny Bop," "Ride the Wind," and "I Want Action." Who are they?

Answer: Poison

A great compilation of Poison songs can be found on their "Greatest Hits 1986-1996" album. If you may prefer a bit of the softer side of rock music, you may be interested and enjoy Poison's 2003 album release entitled "Best of Ballads & Blues." It includes such songs as the ever popular #1 hit of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "Life Goes On," "I Won't Forget You," and "Something to Believe In." If you happen to be a Poison fan like me, you may also enjoy playing my "Power to the 'Poison' Fans" quiz.
7. This next group of guys started out to step out and revive some classic hits such as "Lodi," "Bad Moon Rising," and "Proud Mary," just to name a few. These guys, along with the originals, are not only loved by those who grew up listening to these songs, but by people of all ages and generations as well. Their name is similar to the original band's, but differs slightly. The last song listed here should make this one a dead giveaway. Who are they?

Answer: Creedence Clearwater Revisited

Two of the original members of Creedence Clearwater Revival, bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, launched Creedence Clearwater Revisited back in 1995 to step out and play live CCRevival hits once again. They enlisted three new members to form CCRevisited and never really intended on playing live for the public, but rather just playing live for private parties.

However, they found themselves playing a few live public concerts and found the reaction to those shows amazingly positive, and are now eight years later still going strong with world-wide touring. You can find a current collection of all the classic hits on CCRevisited's double live album entitled "Recollection." I have had the pleasure of seeing CCRevisited in concert and it is of my highest recommendation that you catch their show if they ever pay a visit to your town. I'm sure to believe you'll thoroughly enjoy it and consider it a night to remember just as I have.
8. You may find this next artist's show-audiences dancing along to songs like "Watermelon Crawl," "Holdin' Heaven," and "(Don't Take Her) She's All I Got." Which country lovin' cowboy is this?

Answer: Tracy Byrd

Tracy Byrd released his first self-titled album in 1993 and gained recognition with the single "Holdin' Heaven" which hit number one. The release of his "No Ordinary Man" album in 1994, however, is what brought him his main success and popularity. The album sold over two million copies and includes the hit singles of "Watermelon Crawl," "Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and Famous," "The First Step," and "The Keeper of the Stars." Tracy Byrd's latest album release from this year (2003) is entitled "The Truth About Men" and includes such tracks as "Drinkin' Bone" and "You Feel Good."
9. This country artist/band has a 40 #1 hits collection CD available with songs such as "Back On My Mind Again," "Smoky Mountain Rain," "Any Day Now," and "She Keeps the Home Fires Burning." Who could this be?

Answer: Ronnie Milsap

Alabama also has a collection of number one hits available on CD, but it's a collection of 41 #1 hits, not 40 #1 hits. I own both Ronnie Milsap's and Alabama's and personally think they're both well worth the buy.
10. Some songs this next group of guys are primarily most remembered and known for include the rockin' power ballad of "I Remember You," "18 and Life," and "Youth Gone Wild." Can you name them?

Answer: Skid Row

Skid Row formed back in 1986 in the state of New Jersey. They gained big success with their 1989 self-titled debut album that includes the songs above along with others such as "Makin' a Mess" and "Piece of Me." A more recent compilation of their greatest hits can be found on their 1998 album entitled "Forty Seasons: The Best of Skid Row." It has such favorites as "Slave to the Grind" and "Monkey Business" along with the three songs mentioned in the question as well.
11. Another country music artist whose music I enjoy is well known for songs such as "If I Could Make a Living," "Rumor Has It," "Live Until I Die," and my personal favorite of "Hypnotize the Moon." Who could this tight-fittin', jean-wearin' cowboy be?

Answer: Clay Walker

Clay Walker gained immediate success with his very first two singles reaching the number one spot. "What's It to You" was the first to hit in August of 1993, followed by "Live Until I Die" later that same year. You can find a really great collection of Clay's biggest hits on his "Greatest Hits" album with all the songs mentioned here along with such others as "Then What," "You're Beginning to Get to Me," "Only on Days That End in 'Y'," "This Woman and This Man," and "Dreaming With My Eyes Wide Open."
12. This next great group of guys, whom I just love, are ones who got their start before I was even born. Three of my most favorite songs from them would have to definitely be their hits of "Listen to the Music," "China Grove," and "Black Water." Who are they?

Answer: Doobie Brothers

Once known for being one of California's most popular rock/pop bands of the 70's, the Doobie Brothers formed back in 1970 and named themselves after a slang term for marijuana. Their name has nothing to do with any of the members being biological brothers, and in fact, the band has been through a numerous amount of members joining and leaving. I read the total to be around about 14 different members; however, they still managed success throughout the 70's with radio hits such as "Listen to the Music" and "China Grove" along with their two #1 single hits of "Black Water" (which was the first in 1974) and "What a Fool Believes" in 1978.

The Doobie Brothers are currently going strong and touring nation wide with their current band member lineup of two of the original members, Tom Johnston (vocals) and Patrick Simmons (guitar), along with members Michael Hossack (drums), Keith Knudson (also drums), John McFee (guitar), and touring members Guy Allison (keyboards), Marc Russo (saxophone), and Skylark (bass).

The Doobie Brothers have been the winners of 4 Grammy awards and are, in my opinion, a band with tremendous musical talent that will live on forever.
13. This artist has a few well-known hit songs from the movie "Back to the Future," but other favorites of mine by him/them include "Do You Believe in Love," "Heart and Soul," and "If This is It." Do you know who it is I'm talking about here?

Answer: Huey Lewis and the News

The songs from the "Back to the Future" movie I was referring to are "Power of Love" and "Back in Time." "Power of Love" along with the other songs listed in the question can all be found together on the album entitled "Time Flies: The Best of Huey Lewis and the News." "Back in Time" is not on that particular album; however, it can be found on the "Back to the Future" soundtrack CD.
14. This female country artist may sometimes try to think about Elvis, or even Memphis, to help her stop from thinking about you. She might even tell you to "Blame it on Your Heart" for making her feel that way because you no longer even know who she is. So, before you decide to toss her away, can you name her?

Answer: Patty Loveless

I hope you got all the clues within the question that were in reference to the songs "I Try to Think About Elvis," "You Don't Even Know Who I Am," and "Don't Toss Us Away," along with "Blame it on Your Heart" of which was already in quotes for you. "Don't Toss Us Away" is from Patty's third album entitled "Honky Tonk Angel," but can also be found on Patty's "Greatest Hits" album.

The other three songs listed here can all be found together on her "Classics" compilation album that came out in March of 1999.
15. A little toughie for this last one: This artist is the lead singer of my all-time favorite band, and he has a new solo CD entitled "Songs of Life" that was just released this year (2003). Some songs on it include one he wrote for his daughter entitled "Raine," and another he wrote the day after and for America's 9/11 tragedy entitled "One More Day." Other song titles on it are my personal favorite of "Stay With Me," along with "Loaded Gun," "It's My Party," "Menace to Society," and "Bittersweet." If you knew the answer to who my all-time favorite band is, then this one you should know too. What's his name?

Answer: Bret Michaels

Bret Michaels has some really great songs on his new solo CD. They're songs he wrote all about his life and he stated in an interview he gave that the release of this album this year was a 40th birthday present to himself. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. I got to see Bret during his solo concert tour for the promotion of this album, and he was just as rockin' as ever in my opinion.

He sung mostly Poison songs, though, which was great and a blast of course, but I also wouldn't have minded hearing him perform more songs off of this album for I truly do think it's really good. Check it out if you love Bret or even love Poison, I'm sure to think you'll love it just as much as I do.
For those it may interest, the compilation of artists I included in this quiz was basically put together solely on me having the pleasure of seeing them all in concert this year (2003). Well, I hope you enjoyed playing the quiz and hope you may have even come across some artists/bands in it that you may possibly love just as much as I do. I thank you for joining me and wish all Happy Holidays!
