Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Check these names carefully! Eric, Ginger, Ric and Steve only came together for one album in the late 'sixties but it is regarded as a classic. Who are they better known as?

Answer: Blind Faith

Blind Faith's eponymously titled album reached number one in the UK album charts in 1969. The band consisted of Eric Clapton on guitar, Steve Winwood on guitar and keyboards, Ric (sometimes Rick) Grech on bass and Ginger Baker on drums.
2. Eric, Alan, 'Chas', John and Hilton were anxious to "...Get Out of This Place" in the 'sixties. Hailing from the north-east of England, who were these guys?

Answer: The Animals

I thought putting "House of the Rising Sun" was too much of a give-away; "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" reached number two in 1965. The Animals line-up was Eric Burden, vocals; Alan Price, keyboards; Brian 'Chas' Chandler, bass; Hilton Valentine, guitar and John Steel on drums.
3. A 'New Romantic' group from Birmingham comprised Simon, Nick, John, Andy and Roger. Collectively they were known as _______?

Answer: Duran Duran

Duran Duran had huge singles success in the 'eighties, with twelve top-ten hit records including two at number one. The line-up was: Simon LeBon, vocals: Nick Rhodes, keyboards; John Taylor, bass; Andy Taylor, guitar and Roger Taylor playing drums.
4. Fans of this band argue long and hard about the 'best' line-up. This was the cast for most of their 'sixties hits: Mick, Keith, Brian, Bill and Charlie. Too easy really, but what's their name?

Answer: The Rolling Stones

Guitarist Brian Jones was found dead in a swimming pool in 1969. I'm sure you don't need reminding the rest of the band but just for the record; Mick Jagger, vocals; Keith Richards, guitar; Bill Wyman, bass and Charlie Watts on drums.
5. A trio from Devon now; Matt, Chris and Dominic started out in the 'nineties but have had fantastic success with both albums and singles in the 'noughties. They have also won awards for their live performances. They are better known as _____?

Answer: Muse

Muse have had four top ten albums since the turn of the century, including two number ones. They were voted best live act at the Brit Awards in 2005. The line-up is: Matt Bellamy, guitar and vocals; Chris Wolstenholme on bass and Dominic Howard on drums.
6. These prog-rockers have had many changes in their line-up over the tears but arguably the classic team contains Jon, Steve, Rick, Chris and Bill. "And You and I" surely know these guys?

Answer: Yes

"And You and I" is one of Yes's best loved tracks. For many Yes fans (well me at least) the classic line-up was: Jon Anderson, vocals; Steve Howe, guitars; Rick Wakeman, keyboards: Chris Squire, bass and Bill Bruford with the sticks.
7. This band are from the punk/new wave era; they were comprised of the following members: Hugh, Jean-Jacques, Dave and Jet. Their name please?

Answer: The Stranglers

The Stranglers line-up for their many hits in the 'seventies and 'eighties was as follows: Hugh Cornwell on guitar and vocals, Jean-Jacques Burnel on bass and vocals, Dave Greenfield on bass and Jet Black on drums.
8. A Manchester band featuring two brothers? I think you've already got this one! Noel and Liam fronted the band, the rest of the group has changed over time but has contained Gem, Andy and a young man called Zak. Now who could this possibly be?

Answer: Oasis

Liam and Noel Gallagher have lead Oasis to an impressive six number one albums since 1994. The above line-up features Gem Archer on guitar, Andy Bell on bass and Zak Starkey on drums. (I wonder who taught him how to tap?)
9. Two brothers in this band also, but these chaps began in the 'sixties. Siblings Ray and Dave were joined by Pete and Mick to form which band?

Answer: The Kinks

Ray Davies and his brother Dave lead The Kinks to thirteen top ten hit singles in the 'sixties and 'seventies, completing the line-up were Pete Quaife on bass and Mick Avory on drums.
10. Glam-rock was mercifully short-lived but these guys were a major force. Noddy, Dave, Jimmy and Dave were better known as which band?

Answer: Slade

Slade were a hard-rocking live act before they turned to glam-rock in the early 'seventies. Between 1971 and 1975 they chalked up thirteen hit singles including six number ones. Noddy Holder usually took lead vocals, Dave Hill played guitar, Jimmy Lea was on bass and the sticksman was Don Powell.
