Question 1 of 10
1. Starting on the north west coast, you might find this song writing partnership and the rest of the group in a cavern. On a good day with sunshine you might see them on Penny Lane or gathering fruit in some fields. Which city are we in? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. To the south, the road sign says. This group contained the song writers Nanker/Phelge; they used this name on some of their songs. The two main song writers in the group used their own names. We are in the country's financial centre now and you won't find many red roosters looking for satisfaction here. Where are we? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Like tour gigs of the time, this journey does not seem to have been planned very well. We are off north again to the midlands to see this group. We arrive at the UK's second city to hear the grass growing and a brontosaurus being chased by the fire brigade. Where are we now? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Even further north to the north east coast this time and you won't see much sun here, rising or not. I think this group had better get out of this place because they seem to be misunderstood. Which city did this group come from? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. While we are up north, let's nip across the border to Scotland and listen to this group. You may see some reflections of your life in something you can spread on a sandwich after recording a Beatle tune while you are here. Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Now for the longest journey. It would be quite pleasant if I had a girl like you along but maybe I couldn't control myself. The place we can see this group is back in England in Hampshire on the south coast and has been twinned with a town of the same name in Massachusetts. What is its name? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Back to the north west again but we will have to wait at the bus stop for transport. You can look through any window on the journey and then have a ride on the carousel and enjoy the music. Which city are we heading for? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Down to the south east now and I only need the name of the county this time. This is where the lead singer of this group who had the only UK chart hit in the '60s with "Money" in 1963 comes from. Do you know the name of the county, nicknamed "Hell fire corner" during WWII? It even has a border with France. Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Back to the north west to Liverpool and on to the ferry but not the ferry across the Mersey. We are on the ferry that I used to work on and it's a pretty rough sea we are going across for eight hours. Can you guess where we are going to see this group? You must know them, uh-oh here comes the night but baby please don't go or take the van with you. Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Back to England now and the final journey to Yorkshire, South Yorkshire to be exact. These young blades had a few hits in the early '60s with "The Crying Game" and "Little Things" but the sharp edge of their career became a little blunted after 1966 when they were cut from the pages of UK chart history. Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starting on the north west coast, you might find this song writing partnership and the rest of the group in a cavern. On a good day with sunshine you might see them on Penny Lane or gathering fruit in some fields. Which city are we in?

Answer: Liverpool

Of course it was The Beatles from Liverpool, as if you didn't know that. They were not the first singers from the port to enter the UK chart. Frankie Vaughan, Michael Holiday, Lita Rosa, Billy Fury and of course Ken Dodd and His Diddymen beat them to it. Their first hit in the UK was "Love Me Do"; it reached number 17 and stayed on the chart for 17 weeks in 1962. I don't know what happened to them after that.

The alternative names are real places in the UK.
2. To the south, the road sign says. This group contained the song writers Nanker/Phelge; they used this name on some of their songs. The two main song writers in the group used their own names. We are in the country's financial centre now and you won't find many red roosters looking for satisfaction here. Where are we?

Answer: London

Jagger/Richards are the main song writers of The Rolling Stones from the capital city (known as "The Smoke" or "The Big Smoke") but those nicknames for London are not used much these days. The first of their self penned songs to chart in the UK was "The Last Time".

Their first hit on the UK chart was a cover version of a Chuck Berry song "Come On"; it reached number 21 and was on the chart for 14 weeks in 1963.
3. Like tour gigs of the time, this journey does not seem to have been planned very well. We are off north again to the midlands to see this group. We arrive at the UK's second city to hear the grass growing and a brontosaurus being chased by the fire brigade. Where are we now?

Answer: Birmingham

Hailing from Birmingham, multi-talented Roy Wood was the leader of The Move; he then founded E.L.O. with Jeff Lynn but left and formed Wizzard. The Move had their first hit on the UK chart with "Night Of Fear" which reached number two and was on the chart for ten weeks in 1967.

The first E.L.O. hit on the UK chart was "10538 Overture" which reached number nine and was on the chart for eight weeks in 1972. Wizzard had their first hit on the UK chart with "Ball Park Incident" which reached number six and was on the chart for 12 weeks in 1972.

Wet Wet Wet spent 15 weeks at number one on the UK chart with a cover version of the Troggs 1967 number five hit "Love Is All Around", written by Reg. Strange but true, the record was taken off the market one week before equaling Brian Adams's 1991 record 16 week run at number one with "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You".
