Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Assassinated heir-presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne.

Answer: Franz Ferdinand

Ferdinand's assassination in Sarajevo in 1914, started the chain of events which led to the First World War. His wife Sophie was also killed alongside Ferdinand, meaning their children Princess Sophie, Maximilian and Prince Ernst are often referred to as the first orphans of WWI.
2. Actress that died in 2009, on the same day as Michael Jackson.

Answer: Farrah Fawcett

Fawcett will always be remembered for her role in "Charlie's Angels", even though she was only a main character for the first season. To millions of males my age though, she is equally memorable for a poster in which she wore a red swimsuit. It quickly became the biggest selling poster in history and has sold in excess of 20 million prints.
3. Italian film director, winner of five Academy Awards.

Answer: Frederico Fellini

Fellini has been described as one of the most influential directors ever, with his movies such as "8 1/2" (1963) often mentioned in critic's lists of the greatest films of all time. This movie won an Oscar, as did Fellini movies, "La Strada" (1956), "Nights of Cabiria" (1957) and "Amarcord" (1973).
4. English novelist, wrote "The Day Of The Jackal" in 1971.

Answer: Frederick Forsyth

Forsyth is a much loved and respected author, responsible for novels such as "The Odessa File" (1972), "The Dogs Of War" (1974) and "The Fourth Protocol" (1984), all of which, along with "The Day Of The Jackal" were made into successful movies.
5. Actor that played Deputy Commissioner Ervin Burrell in the TV show "The Wire".

Answer: Frankie Faison

Although Faison is best known for his wonderful portrayal of Ervin Burrell on "The Wire" between 2002 and 2008, when he was fired by new mayor Tommy Carcetti (Aidan Gillen) for falsifying crime figures, his claim to fame is that he is the actor that appears most in the Hannibal Lecter franchise, playing Lieutenant Fisk in "Manhunter" (1986) and Barney Matthews in "The Silence Of The Lambs" (1991), "Hannibal" (2001) and "Red Dragon" (2002).
6. Singer of Billboard Hot 100 number one record, "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" in 1975.

Answer: Freddy Fender

"Before The Next Teardrop Falls" was also a number one on the Billboard country charts as well as on the Canadian country chart and in Australia. His follow up release, "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights", also in 1975 was almost as successful but would be his last top ten record in the Billboard Hot 100. In 1979, Fender recorded a country version of "Squeeze Box", originally by the Who.
7. American golfer who appeared as a rookie in the 2004 Ryder Cup.

Answer: Fred Funk

Funk played three matches in the 2014 Ryder Cup and lost them all as Europe beat USA by a score of 18.5 to 9.5. He lost his singles game against Thomas Levet and in the foursomes, he partnered Davis Love III first as they lost to Colin Montgomerie and Pádraig Harrington and then partnered Jim Furyk, with whom they recorded a loss to Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald.
8. Ruler of Spain from 1936 to 1975.

Answer: Francisco Franco

Franco ruled Spain as a military dictator from the end of the Spanish civil war in 1939 to his death in 1975. In an attempt to promote Spanish nationalism, Franco banned the use of the Basque, Catalan and Galician languages outside the home and also banned the use of names in these languages for newborn babies.
9. Author of the novel, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" (1987).

Answer: Fannie Flagg

Although Flagg has written several books, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" is by far her best known. It was made into a movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes" in 1991, in which Flagg appeared as a teacher and she was also nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay adaptation but lost out to Ted Tally for his adaptation of Thomas Harris' novel, "The Silence Of The Lambs" for the movie of the same name.
10. American singer and actor. Had a Billboard Hot 100 number three hit in 1959 with "Tiger".

Answer: Fabian Forte

Better known as just Fabian, without his surname, he also had two other Billboard Hot 100 top ten hits in 1959 with "Turn Me Loose" and "Hound Dog Man" both reaching number nine. His acting career included roles in "High Time" and "North To Alaska", both in 1960 and supporting Bing Crosby and John Wayne respectively.
