Answer: Saul

In 1 Samuel 15:27-28 of the New International Version, Saul and Samuel were in sharp conflict because Saul had rejected the word of the Lord. Saul begged Samuel to forgive him and to come back with him, so that he could worship the Lord. But Samuel would not go. "As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and tore it." This was to signify that the Lord had torn the kingdom of Israel away from Saul and given it to one of his neighbours.

Samuel came to Jesse to anoint one of his sons to become king of Israel. "When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, 'Surely the Lord's anointed stands here before the Lord.' But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.

He told Samuel that he had carried out the Lord's instructions, but Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears?" So the Lord rejected Saul as king of Israel, and Samuel did not see Saul again for as long as he lived.
