Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Picard is attempting to sleep onboard an alien ship while sharing quarters with a single occupant, but despite the silence, the mere presence of his roommate is enough to disturb him out of sleep.

Answer: Unification, Part 1

A humorous moment early on in the episode occurs while Picard and Data are on board the Klingon ship, heading towards the Neutral Zone en route to Romulus.
Inside of their assigned cramped quarters, Picard is attempting to sleep on one of the bunks while Data, not needing any sleep, remains standing up. Despite Data's silence, a restless Picard keeps feeling the android's presence, ultimately giving up on trying to sleep altogether and instead discussing their plans to locate Spock.
2. Riker is being held prisoner on board an alien ship, but he convinces his captor to lower a forcefield in order to continue their chess game while seated at a table together, facilitating Riker's escape from confinement.

Answer: Ménage À Troi

After he, Counselor Troi and the outrageous Lwaxana Troi are kidnapped from Betazed and regain consciousness on board the Ferengi ship, Riker passes the time trying to help his two Ferengi captors play their chess game. After a while, one of the Ferengi leaves the room to pursue Lwaxana, whom he had been infatuated with ever since the pair was acquainted during the festivities in Ten Forward at the beginning of the episode.

The other Ferengi chooses to stay, engaging in a new chess game with Riker, who is still being confined behind a forcefield.

The Enterprise's first officer, however, convinces his alien captor to lower the forcefield so that it would be easier to make his moves instead of having to play from a standing distance. We then see Riker briefly seated at the table opposite the Ferengi guard, who arms himself with a hand-held weapon and ready to fire in case the commander tries anything.

But moments later, the Ferengi has somehow been subdued and is laying unconscious on the floor, Riker and Counselor Troi escaping their prison cell and entering a control room where they try to send a subspace message to the Enterprise.
3. Picard, Riker and Data are all riding in the Turbolift together, but when the doors open, they each see copies of themselves standing outside in the corridor.

Answer: We'll Always Have Paris

Among the time anomalies affecting the ship is when Picard, Riker and Data see duplicate versions of themselves standing outside in the corridor, an event that happened a few moments prior to their original entry into the Turbolift. It's concluded that the experimental work of scientist Paul Manheim is the reason for the time anomalies, and the crew soon attempts to enter his lab down on the planet to correct what has gone wrong in the space-time continuum.
4. A leaking container in the cargo bay causes other cargo containers to fall onto Worf, rendering him unconscious and, later, his legs paralyzed.

Answer: Ethics

The freak accident that leads to the primary 'ethical' issue of this episode occurs right from the opening scene. Worf, Geordi and a team of other engineers are investigating a leak from one of the barrels inside the cargo bay. Worf's tricorder scans eventually discover the trace substance in question, but before he can report, the pressure from the leaking barrel causes all of the other barrels to tumble down from an elevated platform. One of the barrels falls onto his back, rendering him unconscious.

Then later, when he awakens in sickbay, Dr. Crusher informs him of the bad news that there's permanent paralysis in his legs.
5. In all of the following episodes, except this one, someone takes over command of a situation due to the questionable judgement of a person in authority.

Answer: Lonely Among Us

This one's a little tricky! Although the first episode of the series involving alien possession led to many tense moments of distrust and suspicion about the Enterprise's captain, nobody steps in to assume command nor stage any kind of mutiny. It only goes as far as Dr. Crusher, near the end of the episode while on the bridge, verbally telling Picard that he's relieved of command due to presumed medical issues.

But at that moment, Picard interfaces with the computers down at the ops and conn stations, which results in a blinding discharge of bluish-white electrical energy that momentarily incapacitates everyone else around him. Unable to be stopped, the 'possessed' Picard then beams off the ship to join the energy beings out in space, albeit briefly.

In "Face Of The Enemy", the generically-altered Counselor Troi, masquerading as a Romulan Tal Shiar, relieves the female Romulan commander and assumes control of the ship, choosing a more diplomatic approach in order for the Romulan delegates to be safely transported as cargo to the Enterprise.

In "Allegiance", Riker is on the bridge of the Enterprise when he takes over command, deciding that the Picard imposter is leading the ship into a field of dangerous radiation. The real Picard, however, is soon transported back to the ship, just as the impostor transforms into one of the aliens who were curious about the idea of authority. Then in "Conundrum", 'Kieran McDuff', who later turns out to be an alien, takes command of the Enterprise in the episode's final moments. But just as the ethical issue of annihilating a totally defenseless alien species begins to register in everyone's mind, the manipulative 'McDuff' has his plans thwarted by the bridge crew and gets phasered to death.
6. In the same episode, Data has his name mispronounced as 'THAT-uh' by a Starfleet officer while Geordi is addressed as 'Chief Engineer' for the first time.

Answer: The Child

Dr. Pulaski and Data are in sickbay, analyzing samples of the cargo material brought on board the ship at the beginning of the episode when the chief medical officer addresses the resident android as 'THAT-uh'. Data then corrects her by pronouncing his name as 'DAY-tuh', which then prompts a humored Pulaski to scan her android crewmate to see if he, a machine, can actually experience sore feelings.

Earlier in the episode, Geordi is in Picard's ready room, showing the captain a miniature model of a container that will need to be replicated numerous times, as they are expected to carry a large load of that aforementioned dangerous chemical cargo. When Riker joins the two men moments later, Picard addresses Geordi as Chief Engineer, prompting the First Officer to say that he's still getting used to the idea of the ship's former conn officer having that title.
7. A Federation scientist is severely injured by the blasts of a laser drill while down on a planet; shortly afterwards, blasts from the same laser drill target Data, who theorizes that the drill wasn't malfunctioning.

Answer: Home Soil

After the away team beams down to the planet to greet Director Mandl and the rest of his colleagues, the scientist named Malencon is heard yelling from inside a concealed lab amidst the sounds of deafening laser blasts. Upon opening the doors to the lab, Mandl and the away team discover that Malencon has sustained serious injuries, believing that the laser drill somehow malfunctioned.

However, when a curious Data reenters the lab moments later to formulate his own analysis, the laser drill reactivates itself, the Enterprise's resident android now finding himself to be the next target.

He concludes that a 'mind' was at work, which would be proven once the inorganic lifeform beamed aboard the ship reveals its vengeful intentions.
8. A male humanoid impersonating Geordi, complete with a VISOR and a yellow Starfleet uniform, is seen in this episode.

Answer: The Mind's Eye

After Geordi is strapped and bound in the 'torture chair', a humanoid man impersonating him (presumably some Human hired by the Romulans) enters the room, wearing a similar yellow Starfleet uniform and even a fake VISOR. He's told to have fun on Risa, which is where Geordi was headed before his abduction.

The doppelganger never says a word, and nor do we ever know his true name or where he even came from. His only purpose, therefore, was to make it appear that everything was normal and that Geordi went on vacation as planned, although in reality, he's being used by the Romulans in a plot to assassinate the Klingon delegate.
9. Data is in Ten Forward, tending the bar and preparing a special concoction for Counselor Troi, when a flash of green energy originating from an alien ship passes through his head.

Answer: Conundrum

When Data loses a chess match against Counselor Troi in Ten Forward at the beginning of the episode, he honors the prior bet he had made with her. Moments later, Data is behind the bar preparing a special drink for his half-Betazoid crewmate that changes to a reddish-orange color when he lightly taps the glass. Without warning, a flash of green energy passes through Data's head, resulting in a brief malfunction and causing him to repeat his last statement while inciting a gasp from the ship's counselor. Similar flashes of green energy pass also through the heads of all of the bridge crew, rendering them all confused and confounded.

The source of those flashes turns out to be the alien ship encountered by the Enterprise, which later is revealed to have been at war with another alien race and required the powerful armaments of Federation technology to assist in its enemy's destruction.
10. Geordi is temporarily incapacitated or rendered unconscious from a direct physical confrontation with an alien force of some kind in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Transfigurations

And yet another tricky one to close out a quiz! In "Transfigurations", the man suffering from amnesia whom the crew nicknamed 'John Doe' actually had a positive or in some way uplifting effect on everyone he came into contact with, including Geordi. At the very beginning of the episode, when the away team is investigating the wreckage of the damaged ship down on the planet, Geordi volunteers to serve as a conduit to help revive the mysterious alien. After Dr. Crusher places a device on his forehead, an aura of yellowish energy emanates from the unconscious 'John Doe' and flies directly into the head of the chief engineer. While Geordi is visibly shaken and does gasp momentarily, he is completely fine and still able to move and speak after the unexpected energy transfer. In fact, it turns out that the brief encounter instilled in him a newfound confidence that he hadn't ever had before. In addition, Geordi has no further physical contact with 'John Doe' where any kind of other temporary incapacity or unconsciousness occurs.

Meanwhile, towards the end of "Sub Rosa", Geordi and Data are in the cemetery down on Earth when Dr. Crusher's dead grandmother, inhabited by the mysterious alien entity, rises from the grave. With the simple ghostly touch of her hands from outstretched arms, she renders both Geordi and Data unconscious, forcing a panicked Dr. Crusher herself to take matters into her own hands in order to save the day. In "Timescape", when he, Counselor Troi and Data are all on board the Romulan ship together, Geordi is attacked by the alien masquerading as the Romulan man who was pretending to be frozen in time. The alien places his hands, which have an aura of energy emanating from them, around the sides of Geordi's head, causing the Enterprise's chief engineer to fall to the floor and convulse violently as both Counselor Troi and Data rush to his rescue. Then in "The Enemy", after Geordi manages to climb out of his muddy pit while down on Galorndon Core, he is walking along the sandy surface when one of the Romulan survivors, whose life he ends up saving, knocks him unconscious with a hefty fisted blow to his back from behind.
