Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Geordi, after opening the Shuttlebay doors, lowers the forcefield surrounding those opened doors in an attempt to release an energy-draining lifeform that has attached itself to the Enterprise's exterior.

Answer: Galaxy's Child

After the mother space-faring lifeform is accidentally killed by the Enterprise crew, the baby that emerges is now in the need of nourishment. It latches itself onto the Enterprise's hull, which results in both an energy drainage that impacts the ship's systems and a buildup of dangerous radiation.

At the suggested recommendation by guest passenger Dr. Leah Brahms, Geordi believes relieving the pressure inside the Shuttlebay could dislodge the creature, given its proximity to that area of the ship. Geordi is then seen operating a computer panel to release the Shuttlebay's forcefield, but doing so ends up having no effect on the lifeform whatsoever.
2. Counselor Troi is getting ready for bed when she suddenly has a memory of her and Riker together, the pair sharing a moment of intimacy while poker chips are falling onto the floor.

Answer: Violations

Counselor Troi is the first to have her memory 'violated' by the telepathic Ullian named Jev when she is preparing for bed. We first see a flash of her and Riker together (in presumably her own quarters) sharing a moment of intimacy while poker chips are flying everywhere.

As they (and the chips) are falling to the floor, the memory suddenly changes to where Riker is hurting Troi physically. As the half-Betazoid counselor is writhing and wincing in agony, Riker's face is soon replaced with the face of Jev.

This scene would play out two additional times in the episode: the second time when Jev is trying to 'help' Deanna recall the painful memory (though he is falsifying the memory by making his father the accused rapist) and the third instance being when Jev reveals himself to have been the culprit all along after giving his goodbyes to her near the end.
3. Data is offered a glass of champagne during a brief celebratory moment inside crew quarters, but shortly after drinking from his glass, he malfunctions and is unable to speak normally.

Answer: Datalore

Something like this happening on "Star Trek" (or in any scene on television, for that matter) can only mean some kind of foul play is at work. In this case, it is Data's evil android brother who is behind the shenanigans. After spiking a glass of champagne with a device that would eventually disrupt Data's circuitry (and, essentially, render him 'unconscious'), Lore invites the ship's operations officer to his quarters, declaring that they are celebrating the fact that they have been reunited. But only moments after Data takes a drink from his spiked glass, he begins stuttering and unable to speak properly, all while a smug Lore delivers a grand monologue about his superiority and how he'll take Data's place onboard the ship.
4. Q temporarily transforms Dr. Crusher into a dog in this episode.

Answer: True Q

A memorable and humorous moment in this episode occurs when Dr. Crusher and Q are discussing Amanda's work in sickbay. Beverly believes that Amanda should rely on her basic skills to accomplish the task while the meddling Q argues that the girl should be using her omnipotent powers to accomplish the same tasks at a faster rate. Partway during the conversation while Beverly is speaking, Q waves his hand to magically transform the ship's chief medical officer into a barking dog, presumably not wanting to hear another word of hers.

But an observant and displeased Amanda waves her own hand and, with a second flash of the familiar white light, transforms the good doctor back into herself again.
5. A guest passenger on board the Enterprise intends to serve as a mediator for settling a dispute among people on a distant world in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: The Outrageous Okona

A recurring theme throughout the series is a guest passenger coming aboard the Federation's flagship who is later being ferried towards a planet in turmoil, hoping to bring peace to the world's inhabitants. In "The Host", Odan was brought aboard in hopes of bringing peace to the people on the planet called Peliar Zel, which the governor representing the world explains was previously accomplished by Odan's father; Odan is later being ferried to the planet by Riker via shuttlecraft.

In "Too Short A Season", Admiral Jameson comes board with the hopes of negotiating with Karnas in order to resolve the terrorist situation on Mordan IV. Jameson and an away team later beam down and try to take a more aggressive approach, but end up being unsuccessful in their efforts.

Then in "The Dauphin", the girl named Salia, plus her 'protector', Anya, are transported from the planet called Klavdia III onto the Enterprise at the beginning of the episode, for the sole purpose of Salia being ferried to Daled IV to bring peace after years and years of war (although neither the warring people nor the Daled IV inhabitants are ever seen). So that leaves "The Outrageous Okona" as the correct answer.

The guest passengers in this episode are the woman whom Okona presumably impregnated, the father of the impregnated woman, the man whom the impregnated woman eventually wants to marry, the father of the man whom the impregnated woman eventually wants to marry (and who also accuses Okona for being a thief) and the very outrageous Okona himself. Sound confusing? Filtering through all of the space drama, it is ultimately Picard and Counselor Troi who are the ones who help everyone resolve both issues...albeit partially, as the two fathers are still bickering over where the unborn grandson will live after resolution has been reached.
6. This was the ONLY episode where Picard joins the senior staff for a poker game.

Answer: All Good Things...

Such a memorable way to end the series! After the dust settles regarding the events with Q and the time anomaly, Riker and the rest of the senior staff are preparing to play one more hand of poker together in his quarters. But when Jean-Luc makes a surprise visit, the ship's First Officer grabs an extra chair so the captain can join them at the familiar table.

As the Picard is dealing 'the cards' (yes, pun intended), he confesses having regretted never joining them for any games in the past. I myself had often wondered why he never played poker with them in any of the previous episodes. Perhaps it seemed too out-of-character for the captain of the Federation's flagship to indulge in such entertainment? Or maybe the writers simply wanted to save it for just this special moment to conclude the series on a bittersweet note :-)
7. This was the LAST episode where Lieutenant Barclay is seen on the holodeck.

Answer: Ship In A Bottle

Ah, a rather tricky one! Barclay did appear in all four of these episodes, with his final appearance being in "Genesis". In that episode, however, we only see him in Sickbay, Engineering and the Observation Lounge as he (and the rest of the crew) are mutating into their de-evolved states. "Realm Of Fear" featured Barclay primarily being in the Transporter Room while he and the rest of the crew are trying to figure out what happened to the other officers onboard the science ship; he actually doesn't appear on the holodeck at all. "The Nth Degree" did feature Barclay on the holodeck, as he outfits himself with the super-intelligent machine that allows him to take direct control of the computer and pilot the Enterprise into Cytherian space.

But that episode aired in the show's fourth season. "Ship In A Bottle", airing two seasons later, also featured Barclay on the holodeck, as he, Data and Picard are tricked by the scheming Moriarty. Barclay even has a conversation with the archenemy of Sherlock Holmes in the opening teaser, wondering how the program could still be running after its apparent deactivation way back in Season 2's "Elementary, Dear Data".
8. Guinan confesses to a crewmember in Ten Forward that she is drawn to males who are bald.

Answer: Booby Trap

Miserable after his failed holodeck date with the woman named Christi, Geordi talks to Guinan while sitting at the bar in Ten Forward, wishing he had a stronger drink to numb the pain. When Geordi asks the mysterious El-Aurian what she looks at first in a potential man, Guinan responds that it's his head that she looks for. Geordi misunderstands her and thinks she's referring to a man's mind, but Guinan corrects him by explaining she means a man's physical head, offering the additional detail that she's attracted to men who are bald because a bald man had helped her once. From that confession alone, us viewers were lead to believe that the man was Picard, given that the two enjoyed a long friendship (which is supported by the many scenes they shared together throughout the series).
9. Geordi is in Engineering, inquiring to the computer about available substances that could trigger comatose symptoms, but his efforts only end in frustration and reaching a dead end when the computer reveals that none of the substances are carried anywhere on the ship.

Answer: Violations

Unable to explain how both Counselor Troi and Riker have fallen into comas, Picard questions the Ullian passengers while Dr. Crusher performs routine tests on Keiko in sickbay. Down in Engineering, Geordi does some investigative work of his own, checking with the computer to see if there's a chemical onboard the ship that could be the cause.

It starts off well; the computer relays that there are about a couple dozen possible chemicals. But when those chemicals can't be found, Geordi comes up with the idea of seeing if any of those couple dozen chemicals break down into other compounds. Yet again, he reaches a roadblock when even these smaller chemicals aren't detected. Geordi then tries asking the computer about substances that aren't routinely checked for, and comes up with a pair of them.

However, these too are not among the ship's chemical manifest, leaving a frustrated Geordi still without clues regarding the comatose conditions of his fellow crewmates.
10. Worf is onboard a ship, with only one other passenger as his companion, in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Liaisons

And another rather tricky one to close out this 37th quiz! In this early seventh-season episode, Worf, Troi and Picard are the three crewmembers who get the honor of spending time with the three Iyarran men upon meeting them in the Shuttlebay, all wearing their Starfleet dress uniforms to commemorate the formal occasion.

Although it is Picard who gets to go on the shuttle mission down to the planet, where the Iyarran dignitary with him gets to experience love, which is foreign to this alien race. Meanwhile, Worf remains on the ship the whole time so that his own Iyarran companion can experience anger, which too is something that had been unknown to the aliens prior to their arrival onboard the Enterprise.

In "The Next Phase", there's a scene where Worf and Data are in a shuttle together en route back to the Romulan ship in an effort to help with the situation involving the experimental propulsion gone wrong.

They then share a brief conversation about the apparent deaths of Geordi and Ensign Ro, even as their two 'out-of-phased' fellow crewmembers are sitting in the shutte's aft compartment and listening to every word. Technically, though, since Geordi and Ro Laren aren't actually there, Data is Worf's only true companion during the whole flight.

In "Darmok", Worf again is onboard one of the Enterprise's shuttles, accompanied this time by a female security officer after being ordered by Riker to go down to the planet and bring Picard back to the ship. Unfortunately, the metaphor-speaking aliens fire upon the shuttle, rendering it partially disabled and leaving Worf with the option of either landing on the planet or returning to the Enterprise. Then in "Birthright, Part 1", Worf is onboard the crude-looking ship piloted by the Yridian whom he had met on Deep Space 9. The Yridian ferries Worf to the coordinates of the colony where the Klingons and the Romulans are co-existing.
