In the very first scene, Josh was at a lecture that was a part of the DuPont Lecture Series and he got a call from Sam. Sam told him that Mr. Mendoza, a man they wanted to get appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, was arrested for drunk driving. Sam assured Josh the press did not know what had happened.

Right after Josh got off the phone with Sam, Sam went into C.J. Cregg's office and she asked him if Mendoza was arrested for drunk driving. Sam told C.J. that was what happened and C.J. said she was surprised since she thought Mendoza did not drink. Sam quipped that perhaps Mendoza was arrested for "driving while Hispanic."

Answer: Typical

Josh was the guest speaker, at a DuPont lecture, and he was invited to come speak to the crowd about a typical day at The White House. Josh responded that there is no such thing as that kind of day, at The White House, and said there is a structure that must be followed.

He also commented that a job, at The White House, starts out as a nine to five job but that, soon, the job goes on until 9:30 p.m.

Josh discussed, at the DuPont lecture, what took place, at The White House, in the previous 36 hours. He commented that they were working hard to succeed at reforming education in the United States. In a flashback, C.J., Toby, and Sam all convened in the press room to discuss how to approach education reform since this was what the President wanted to accomplish. Toby commented on how this would be difficult since half of all new teachers quit in three years.

The President's education reform was a success.

After Sam, Toby, and C.J. got done discussing education reform in the press room (for more, see "Interesting Info" section for question four), Sam met up with C.J. in the hall. He told her that she should hold off her press conference until 1:00 p.m. so she could wait until after the education reform bill had passed. C.J. said she could not hold the press conference, at 1:00 p.m., since she had a dentist appointment, at that time.

Josh was in his office and Mandy came in to ask him if he knew about Deborah O'Leary. Josh was puzzled so Mandy read him a note that said someone was having problems with public housing and this caused O'Leary to give an angry response. Hampton, then, revealed that Deborah O'Leary was the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. O'Leary's angry response was seen as implying a Republican Congressman was racist since she said he and his colleagues were more interested in scoring points with minorities than solving housing problems.

Answer: Donald Morales

When Josh told his story about the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development's comments, at the lecture, he mentioned that a spokesperson named Donald Morales wished he did not get out of bed that morning. Morales confirmed that what Secretary O'Leary said was true about the Republican Congressman, with whom she argued.

Despite this controversy, President Bartlet did not fire Secretary O'Leary.

Charlie Young, personal aide to President Bartlet, came into the oval office and told him it was time to speak to reporters at the press conference concerning Secretary O'Leary's comments. When Josh talked about this, in the DuPont lecture, he told the audience that the President was very brief in the press conference and that was one of few moments, in his life, where he was brief. During the press conference, the first question the President was asked was if he agreed with Secretary O'Leary that the Republican Congressman was racist. Bartlet responded that he had great confidence, in Secretary O'Leary, and dodged the question.

Answer: Leo McGarry

President Bartlet continued to take questions, during his press conference, and he was asked about meeting with Secretary O'Leary. He told the reporters that his Chief of Staff, Leo McGarry, would meet with her. A reporter asked President Bartlet if Mr. McGarry would ask Secretary O'Leary to apologize and the President replied that it would be appropriate.

Right after the question on if McGarry would get Secretary O'Leary to apologize, Sam Seaborn told the reporters that this was all the time they had. Sam further commented that the President had a meeting, with U.N. Ambassadors, and that was all the time that he had. Sam added that there would be more, on Secretary O'Leary's comments, in a briefing that would be held by Press Secretary, C.J. Cregg.
