Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, much of the action took place in the fictional country of Sangala. On which continent was Sangala located?

Answer: Africa

The fictional sub-Saharan country of Sangala was a democratic nation being threatened by a military coup. Based on its observation of Greenwich Mean Time, it appeared to be located on the west coast of Africa. The African countries of Rwanda, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Cote d'Ivoire were all possible models for the creation of Sangala.
2. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, Jack Bauer was living at a boys' school run by his friend, Carl Benton. How did Bauer know Benton?

Answer: They were in the military together.

Jack Bauer and Carl Benton served together in the Special Forces. After leaving the military, Benton set up the Okavango School in a rural area of Sangala. Bauer stayed with Benton and helped out at the school for a few months, but Bauer decided to leave after a U.S. embassy official arrived with a Senate subcommittee subpoena for him.
3. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, the democratic government of Sangala was facing a coup by a rebel army. Who was leading the coup?

Answer: General Juma

General Benjamin Juma had previously attempted a coup in Sangala, but it had been suppressed, and he had been disarmed. The United Nations had been tasked with keeping an eye on him, but he had once again managed to accumulate weapons and was intent on taking control of Sangala. Colonel Ike Dubaku was running the operation for General Juma.
4. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, two of the boys from Carl Benton's school went into town to play football with the local boys. What happened at the football field?

Answer: Rebel troops shot the two and captured the rest of the boys.

Colonel Dubaku of the rebel army had more weapons than troops, so he was abducting children to train as soldiers. The two boys from the Okavango School, Desmond and James, had gone into town without permission, and they were shot when they tried to escape from the rebel troops.
5. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, the president-elect's son, Roger Taylor, was contacted by his friend, Chris Whitley, regarding some suspicious activity in which Whitley had been involved. What activity was it?

Answer: Money-laundering involving a name on a terrorist watch list

Chris Whitley told Roger Taylor that his boss had asked him to move money between off-shore accounts and that he discovered that one of the account holders was on the terrorist watch list. He was told by his boss to destroy the records, but he sent them to his home computer and told Taylor that he would forward the records to him. Whitley was killed by men who had discovered his actions, and his body was buried in cement.
6. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, which American businessman, from the company Starkwood, was backing the coup in Sangala by providing weapons and offering to provide soldiers?

Answer: Jonas Hodges

Jonas Hodges (played by Jon Voight) was an executive with Starkwood, a defense contractor that had evolved into a private military company complete with its own army of mercenaries. Hodges had financed the coup through the transactions conducted by Chris Whitley, and he had ordered Whitley's death; he also ordered that Roger Taylor be watched. Hodges had called Colonel Dubaku and offered to provide soldiers as he had troops across the border, but Dubaku did not accept the offer; he preferred to use children.
7. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, on the day of the U.S. Presidential inauguration, the Prime Minister of Sangala requested American military assistance to put down a coup. What was the response of the outgoing U.S. President?

Answer: He ordered the evacuation of American citizens from Sangala.

Prime Minister Ule Matobo had called the U.S. President and asked for assistance, but the president instead decided to evacuate American citizens. President-elect Allison Taylor was not pleased that she had not been consulted on the decision. She was told by the president that the evacuation was the best solution since there wasn't any financial benefit to U.S. involvement; she disagreed since a coup could lead to genocide within Sangala.
8. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, Jack Bauer helped Carl Benton evacuate the school. Where were they taking the children?

Answer: The American Embassy

Colonel Dubaku had sent troops to kidnap the children from the school, but Jack Bauer and Carl Benton were able to kill the troops, including Dubaku's brother. They then left for the American Embassy; Benton had sponsorship papers for the children and wanted to get them to the United States. Bauer agreed to help get the children to the city, but then he was going to cross the border to avoid returning to the U.S.
9. In "24: Redemption", the prequel to Day 7, how did Carl Benton, Jack Bauer's friend and the director of the Okavango School, die?

Answer: He was standing on a landmine and let it detonate.

After realizing that the roads were blocked by rebel troops, Jack Bauer and Carl Benton led the boys along the river to reach the capital city. One of the boys, Willie, had stepped on a spring-loaded landmine, and Benton was able to push Willie to safety and take his place on the mine.

There wasn't time to disable the mine, so Benton told Bauer to get the boys to the embassy. Benton was standing on the mine when the rebel troops arrived, and he drew them in closer before detonating it.
10. At the end of "24: Redemption", Allison Taylor was sworn in as President of the United States. Who was the outgoing president?

Answer: Noah Daniels

Noah Daniels (played by Powers Boothe) had been Wayne Palmer's Vice-President during Day 6 and had assumed the presidency following Palmer's incapacitation from an assassination attempt. In "24: Redemption", we learn that Daniels had lost his election bid to Senator Allison Taylor and that he was still bitter over it while transitioning duties to Taylor.
