Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening minutes, where is the body of Jerry Gable found?

Answer: a dumpster

I am not sure which restaurant it was, but Catherine, Gil, and David (Phillips) all comment on the food. Catherine liked their meatloaf sandwich, David liked the chili and Grissom (Gil) said he hadn't eaten there since the chef blew his brains out. Poor Jerry Gable had eaten himself to death inside the dumpster.
Bill Chott portrayed thirty year old Jerry Gable. Chott was also seen on "3rd Rock From the Sun" and an episode of "ER".
2. There was a napkin found in the pocket on the body of Jerry Gable.

Answer: True

Phillips pulled out a white napkin with the establishment name of Aunt Jackpot's Pretzels. Catherine followed this lead to her next good clue. At the pretzel place, which she said she loved, she was given Jerry's wallet by the vendor. The man explained to her that Jerry had tossed the wallet at him and then ran off with a salted pretzel.

Inside the wallet, Catherine found a business card for Digger James of the EXEF. She also ordered a pretzel for herself, it was pineapple cinnamon.
3. Jerry's face was discovered to have a special silver paint on it. It was a theatrical make-up known as what color?

Answer: Bootleg Silver

We learn toward the end of the episode how Jerry acquired the brush of silver on one side of his face. He'd become agitated after a hotdog eating contest and grabbed hold of one of the other contestants. The man was wearing the silver face paint as part of his persona, and some of it transferred to Jerry's face.
4. Greg decided to find out the name brand of the approximately 20 hotdogs Jerry consumed. He bought many brands to compare against the ones found inside Jerry's stomach. There was a song playing during this segment called "Big Weenie". Who is the artist behind this song?

Answer: Eminem

Eminem, or Marshall Mathers, released this song off of his album "Encore". Even if you hadn't heard this song beforehand, but did know Eminem's music, you'd have been able to recognize his voice. The song fit right in this scene, as 'weenie' is an affectionate term in America for a hotdog.
5. The organization that hosted Jerry's hotdog eating contest was called the Extreme Eating Federation. What was their acronym?

Answer: EXEF

Jim and Catherine follow the clues provided by Greg. The hotdogs Jerry had consumed had a logo on them of chatter teeth. Greg was able to find the brand name of the hotdogs and the details of the hotdog tournament. Once there, they located the host, Digger James, who'd given Jerry the business card from the day before. Hal Sparks played Digger James, who had an EXEF hat on his head.
6. Jerry Gable had a disease that caused him to experience insatiable hunger.

Answer: True

The disease is called Pradar-willi syndrome. Grissom explained to Catherine that it is caused by a flawed hypothalamus. The part of the brain that causes you to recognize fullness malfunctions, so the person always needs to eat. He also gave her some recognizable symptoms for the diseases.

They included short stature, almond shaped eyes, and excessive fingernail biting, all of which applied to thirty year old Jerry Gable.
7. Who was responsible for the death of Jerry Gable?

Answer: Susan Gable's boyfriend

Jerry was continuously restrained by the wrist. This explained the scar tissue found on his body. Well, Susan's boyfriend felt sorry for Jerry and decided to take Jerry with him when he went out. He dropped Jerry off at Circus Town's $1.99 all you can eat buffet.

He came back and found Jerry eating massive amounts of foods and decided to enter him into the EXEF's hotdog eating tournament. Jerry took third place, which qualified him for the finals in Atlantic City. Unfortunately, Jerry got away from the boyfriend and ate himself to death.

His last meal was found dumpster diving, where he died.
8. When Greg presented Grissom with two bags full of hotdogs, Grissom quoted a famous movie star. Who did he quote when he said, "a hotdog at the ballpark tastes better than a steak at the Ritz"?

Answer: Humphrey Bogart

Greg knew it was a famous quote when he heard it, but he still had to ask Grissom who said it. Grissom went on explain the origin of the word hotdog. Research showed that Bogart's quote may have actually been slightly different. It was possibly, "a hot dog at the ball park is better than steak at the Ritz." Another one of Bogart's famous quotes was, "all you owe the public is a good performance."
Though I couldn't actually picture Howard Hughes saying this, I could see Leo DiCaprio's other famous character, Jack Dawson, saying this to Rose aboard the Titanic.
9. In "Dog Eat Dog", Nick and Sara investigated the death of a husband and wife. Is it true that the couple, Michael and Lori Tinsley, were in the middle of a bitter divorce?

Answer: Yes

Sara found out that the Tinsleys were fighting over everything, including a custody battle for their dog. Sara followed the clue of Missy Haltzman's car in the Tinsleys' driveway. Missy was Michael's girlfriend. She'd broken into their home on his behalf to steal some of his albums. Lori was planning on selling the rare albums (Classic Rock) before a judge could tell her to divide them.
10. While gathering evidence at the Tinsley house, Sara noticed that some rare music albums were missing. Later, Missy confessed to taking them. Missy explained that one album was very rare and signed by the artist. Which album was it and who signed it?

Answer: "The Beatles White Album" signed by Paul McCartney

Missy explained to Catherine that the albums belonged to Michael and he'd collected many of them in high-school.
The official name of the album is "The Beatles" and it was released in 1968. It appeared in the 'Guinness Book' as having sold almost two million copies in its first week. It is most commonly called 'The White Album', though it was not actually part of the title. The original working title for this album was "A Doll's House" and an illustration was created for the cover. In the end, the album was just plain old white and called "The Beatles".
"Led Zeppelin 1" was recorded in 1968 as well, and produced by Jimmy Page. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper were all killed in a small plane crash in 1959. The Big Bopper was given the seat by Waylon Jennings, and Ritchie won his in a coin toss. Waylon sang the theme song for the hit 1980s TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard".
11. Were the blond hairs found on both of the brunette Tinsley bodies that of a Golden Retriever?

Answer: Yes

Nick and Sara discovered the Tinsleys' dog, Kahlua, hiding inside her crate in a room down the hall from the murder scene. Kahlua was covered in blood, as were her food and water bowls. Nick investigated whether or not Kahlua's teeth impressions matched the jagged wound on Lori Tinsley's throat.
12. How did Micheal Tinsley die?

Answer: gunshot into his head

In a fight over their dog Kahlua, Lori pulled out a gun and fired at Michael. The bullet went into his brain by way of his nose, so upon initial investigation Nick and Sara had no reason to suspect gunshot as the cause of death. Sara went back after Robbins located the bullet inside the man's brain and found the missing gun.
13. How did Lori Tinsley die?

Answer: dog attack, bled out from her jugular

Michael had decided to bring in a fake Kahlua from the animal shelter. He broke into their home to replace one dog for the other, but Lori caught him. Sadly the adopted dog, Kahlua number two, must have suffered in her fist life. When the gun fired, the dog went crazy and attacked Lori. Lori's throat was torn open and she bled out. Nick was able to clear the first Kahlua by using teeth impressions.

The second Golden Retriever had a chipped front tooth that match the bite impression from Lori's neck.
14. Warrick loved the strawberry and rhubarb pie Robbins' wife had made.

Answer: False

Not only did Warrick not like the pie, but it was not made by Robbins' wife. Robbins made it himself. He said it was vegan, and contained no fat, sugar or carbs. He tried to get Catherine to try it as well, but her experience at the hotdog eating contest had left her sickened by all food. Warrick commented that along with no fat, sugar, or carbs (carbohydrates) that the pie had no taste either.
15. In regards to the death of Jerry Gable, Grissom mentioned two sins had been committed. Which two sins did Grissom offer?

Answer: greed and gluttony

Susan Gable's boyfriend had used Jerry's insatiable appetite (gluttony) to win money from the hotdog eating tournament for himself (greed). He wasted the money and cost poor Jerry his life.
