Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode began in Hector Salamanca's hospital room where Gus Fring's personal physician was assessing Hector's condition. Based on the physician's comments, what did Gus do to aid in Hector's recovery?

Answer: Brought in a physician from Johns Hopkins

Gus's physician tested Hector's reflexes and reviewed his chart notes. He then met with Gus in the hospital parking lot where he relayed his findings to Gus and told him that Hector was receiving good care at the hospital. He mentioned that he might be better off at Johns Hopkins hospital or might not - it might not make a difference at all.

The physician was familiar with Hector and said that he deserved what he got. Gus made it clear that his interest in Hector's condition had to do with his ultimate plans for Hector: "I decide what he deserves. No one else". Later in the episode, we saw a Johns Hopkins doctor arrive at the hospital, thanks to a "generous grant".
2. While Jimmy was sitting in his car before the job interview, what did he look at in his hand that foreshadowed his future Saul Goodman self?

Answer: Strands of his hair

Jimmy pulled into the parking lot and primped before the interview. When he ran his fingers through his hair, a couple of strands came out, and he stared at them. It was a brief moment, but the camera focused on the hair. Jimmy McGill had a full head of hair whereas the future Saul Goodman had a noticeable comb-over. Could this be a sign, like "The Picture of Dorian Gray" deteriorating over time from Gray's evil acts, that Jimmy's hair will fall out as he continues to morph into Saul?
3. While at the job interview, Jimmy noticed something on a shelf that brought back memories of his days as a lawyer for the elderly. What items were they whose value he later looked up on the Internet?

Answer: Hummel figurines

Back in the "Alpine Shepherd Boy" episode of season one, Jimmy had prepared a will for Mrs. Strauss who had an extensive collection of Hummel figures so he knew they were valuable collectibles. He seemed to have a brief note of regret in his voice when he mentioned the Hummel figurines to the manager at the interview, perhaps a wistful remembrance of his prior career.

The company owner however dismissed the collection which had belonged to his late aunt, stating that he needed "to drag that stuff to the dumpster".

At the end of the episode, we saw Jimmy looking up the value of the figurines on the Internet and then calling Mike about a job.
4. When Jimmy was at the job interview, he sidestepped a question about his past as a lawyer by sharing a lawyer/snake joke. During the conversation, what other desert denizen did he mention as being his "spirit animal"?

Answer: Gila monster

The company owner was reading Jimmy's resume and noted that Jimmy had been a lawyer until very recently. He then looked at Jimmy, asking what changed. Jimmy however didn't directly address the question; instead he launched into a lawyer joke: "Do you know why God made snakes before he made lawyers? He needed the practice".

He then pointed out that even though he wasn't a salesman per se, being a lawyer was essentially selling to clients, to juries, and to judges and that he was very persistent: "My spirit animal is a Gila monster; once I latch on, I don't let go".
5. Jimmy talked his way into a job offer which he immediately and crassly declined. Which job position was it?

Answer: Copier salesman

Jimmy later told Kim that he turned down the job offer because it wasn't a perfect fit, but it really was. He knew copiers well from his work in the mail room and impressed the owner and manager with his knowledge of the models and the inner workings of the machines. And he proved his salesmanship skills to them by convincing them to hire him on the spot.

It was a masterful scene on selling yourself. But when they offered him the job, he called them out: "Are you out of your mind? You don't know me! I just came in off the street... No due diligence, no background check... I could be a serial killer! I could be the guy who pees in your coffee pot!" He walked out, leaving them with the comment: "Suckers. I feel sorry for you." Actor Bob Odenkirk believed that the two reminded Jimmy of his dad who allowed everyone to walk all over him, and Jimmy despised that type of weakness.
6. When Arturo and Nacho stopped by the hospital to check on the still unresponsive Hector, whom did they find in his room besides the doctor?

Answer: The Cousins

We last saw Tuco's cousins when Hector used them to intimidate Mike by having them pretend to shoot Kaylee (with a finger gun, but the point was made). Hector's evil twin nephews Leonel and Marco (Daniel and Luis Moncada) were silently watching as the local doctor checked Hector's condition before the doctor from Johns Hopkins arrived.

They ignored her initially until she spoke to them in Spanish. While she was explaining her treatment plan to them, Nacho and Arturo arrived to check on Hector. She encouraged them to speak to Hector in the hopes that he'd recognize their voices.

After she left the room, the Cousins indicated to Nacho and Arturo that they (Nacho and Arturo) were the ones who needed to speak to Hector, so they each took turns with their awkward comments: "Don Hector, everything is good out on the street", "You look good, Don Hector, real good", "You're going to get past this and be stronger than ever".
7. Lydia Rodarte-Quayle met with Mike to discuss his unauthorized inspection of the Madrigal facility in Las Cruces and was dismayed to find out that he intended to visit other Madrigal facilities. What was Gus Fring's response when Lydia called him about Mike's plans?

Answer: "Give the man a badge"

Lydia was laundering the money that Mike had stolen from Hector Salamanca's operation, and she was not pleased with Mike's appearance at the Las Cruces facility; she expected him to just accept the checks. When she met with Mike, he told her that he planned to visit all eight of Madrigal's facilities in the southwest as part of his security consultant responsibilities -- he told her to think of it as a perk of his contract.

She was not happy with him and told him that he needed to stay in Gus Fring's good graces.

But it appeared that she might not fully understand Gus Fring. When she called Gus to complain about Mike, Gus was sweeping the parking lot at Los Pollos Hermanos. Clearly he appreciated working at a cover story. He told her to let Mike continue doing what he was doing, and when she told him that she didn't have time to deal with the aftermath of Mike's actions, Gus told her abruptly: "Then I suggest you give the man a badge" and hung up.
8. Kim met with Howard regarding Chuck's estate. What WASN'T one of the things that Howard offered to Jimmy?

Answer: Chuck's pension

Jimmy was invited to the meeting but opted not to go. When Kim arrived, Howard was meeting with Chuck's ex-wife Rebecca to whom Chuck had left his house. Rebecca told Kim that Howard had suggested that Jimmy go through the house and take whatever he wanted. Additionally, there was a check for Jimmy - Kim had guessed $4,000 but Howard said it was $5,000 - just enough to prevent Jimmy from contesting the will. Howard also said that a scholarship was being set up and he offered Jimmy a seat on the board. Additionally, there was a sealed letter for Jimmy which Howard handed to Kim. Kim was rather curt with Howard while he explained Jimmy's inheritance, but after Rebecca left, she unloaded on Howard.

She was angry for his confession on the day of Chuck's funeral when he told Jimmy that he believed Chuck killed himself.

She pointed out that he didn't make a similar confession to Rebecca: "You did it to make yourself feel better by unloading your guilt" on Jimmy. And now Howard wanted to let "Jimmy dig around the fire-damaged wreck where his brother died screaming" and to sit on a board for "a scholarship that Chuck never in a million years would have given to Jimmy". Howard looked hurt and contrite and asked what he could do to make things better, but Kim told him there was nothing he could do: "just stay away".
9. Whom did Gus Fring suffocate with a plastic bag at the end of the episode?

Answer: Hector's man Arturo

When Arturo and Nacho went to pick up their portion of the drug supply from Gus's men Victor and Tyrus, Arturo decided to demand six kilos instead of the five that they were apparently allotted. Arturo told Nacho in advance that he was going to ask for six and asked Nacho to back him up.

When Victor refused to give him six, Nacho cocked his gun to persuade him to change his mind. As they were leaving the meeting, Arturo was talking trash "that's how you do it..." when suddenly they were ambushed by Gus and his men. Gus put a plastic bag over Arturo's head, zip-tied it and with Victor's assistance, left him hogtied on the ground, and Arturo slowly suffocated.
10. Nacho had told his father that he was trying to get out of the drug business, but it wasn't to be. Who told Nacho "from now on... YOU ARE MINE"?

Answer: Gus

After Hector's collapse, Nacho visited his father at work and told him that it was over, meaning that his father didn't need to worry about Hector. His father returned Hector's money to Nacho and then asked Nacho when it would be over for him. "I'm working on it", Nacho told him.

But for now, he still needed to go through the motions, working for the Salamanca operation until he could find a way out. So he went to the fateful pickup with Arturo. When Gus and his men attacked Arturo, Nacho was forced to his knees at gunpoint and had to watch in horror as Arturo suffocated. Gus told Nacho, "I know what you've done.

The Salamancas -- they do not. Do you understand what I'm saying?" As Nacho watched Arturo gasp his last few breaths, Gus told him, "From now on... YOU ARE MINE".
