Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode, how did Gus Fring's men dispose of Arturo's body?

Answer: Staged an ambush on a deserted road

Victor staged Arturo's car to look as if it had been attacked, and then Tyrus drove slowly down the road towards it, dropping pieces of taillight and spent cartridges along the way. When Tyrus reached the scene, he and Victor shot up Arturo's car with Arturo in it.

When it looked sufficiently authentic, Nacho climbed in the passenger's seat and then turned toward the back window, as if he was looking at someone. Victor shot him in the shoulder, which was apparently what Nacho was expecting since he stumbled out of the car into the desert and then asked if he could place the call.

But Victor had other ideas. He shot Nacho again - this time in the side of the abdomen to make it more convincing. He then told Nacho to make the call before he passed out.
2. After Mike turned him down, whom did Jimmy contact to find someone to steal the Hummel statue?

Answer: The Vet

Jimmy had spotted a valuable Hummel figurine in the Neff Copiers office when he went to the company for a job interview, and he knew the owner was planning to dispose of it because he had no idea that it was valuable. So Jimmy's plan was to replace the figurine with a similar Hummel figure that wasn't as valuable.

The copier store owner wouldn't be the wiser, and Jimmy would be able to sell the figurine for $8k, splitting the proceeds with a thief. He approached Mike but was turned down: "The plan's fine as far as it goes, it's just not for me. And I don't think it should be for you either".

As series co-creator/executive producer Peter Gould pointed out, Mike "recognizes that Jimmy's not acting rationally". Mike had asked Jimmy if he had something against the copier store owner, and when Jimmy said that he didn't, Mike apparently suspected that it had something to do with Chuck's death because he told Jimmy, "I'm sorry about your brother". Jimmy wasn't about to give up his plan though, so after his meeting with Mike, he called to schedule an appointment for his sick fish.

When the Vet wasn't having luck getting a person to accept an assignment, Jimmy took the phone from him and made a successful sales pitch to get a co-conspirator.
3. Kim met with Mesa Verde attorney Paige Novick to discuss the Mesa Verde expansion. Who accompanied Kim to the meeting?

Answer: Her paralegal Viola

Kim had talked about hiring a paralegal during the Wexler McGill days, but we never saw one, just receptionist Francesca. But now Kim had a paralegal Viola Goto ("Gilmore Girls" Lane Kim (Keiko Agena)) assisting her. Viola accompanied her to the meeting which Kim apologized for since it wasn't part of her job description to give Kim a ride, but Viola didn't seem to mind; she appeared very eager to help with whatever Kim needed.

When Kim mentioned that she needed to prepare acquisition documents, Viola offered to do so, but Kim initially said that she would do it.

After the meeting however, Kim told Viola to take a crack at it and also asked Viola to drop her at the courthouse for reasons not revealed in this episode.
4. While Kim was at Mesa Verde, what did CEO Kevin Wachtell show her that appeared to alarm her?

Answer: Models of new banks

Kim appeared to be doing fine while she was meeting with Paige. She seemed confident up to the point when Kevin took her to see the models. She had been working on the Mesa Verde expansion into other southwestern states; was it the additional expansions that unnerved her? The expression on her face as Kevin read off the names of the locations was hard to read.

When Kevin asked her if something was wrong, she said "No. It's just a lot. It's a very fast, aggressive expansion". She clearly had some concern because as they were leaving Mesa Verde, Kim stopped and stared at the massive cowboy statue in the lobby and then told Viola to go ahead and prepare the acquisition documents which Kim originally planned on doing.

Then she asked Viola to drop her at the courthouse. Viola said that she would have prepped if she knew that Kim had an appearance there today, but Kim said she didn't, "nothing to prep".
5. Who removed the bullet from Nacho's abdomen?

Answer: The Vet

The Vet was a busy man in this episode. Nacho must have called someone in the Salamanca organization to pick him up at the staged ambush scene, and it was the Cousins who showed up. They looked around the scene and apparently weren't suspicious about it.

As Jimmy was leaving the Vet's office with his fish, one of the Cousins passed him in the doorway. The Vet treated Nacho somewhere offsite from his office - not the best conditions. He told Nacho that he left the bullet in his shoulder and had removed the bullet from his abdomen, but he couldn't tell for certain if the bowel had been nicked with the bullet so he recommended that Nacho get an x-ray.
6. While Nacho was being treated for his bullet wounds, who gave him a blood transfusion?

Answer: One of the Cousins

As the Vet was cleaning up after his work, we saw Nacho with a transfusion line that came from one of the Cousins, who was opening and clenching his fist, apparently as directed by the Vet. So now Nacho had Salamanca blood in him. As Nacho began to stir, the Vet talked to him: "Well, well, there he is. You woke up. That means my Spanish is good enough, and Yul Brenner over here is actually O negative".

After giving Nacho instructions on his care, the Vet whispered to him that he didn't want to see him again; he'd had enough of the cartel. Apparently the Vet had a limit to the level of criminal activity he was willing to be involved with.
7. When Jimmy's hired thief Ira broke into Neff Copiers to steal the Hummel figurine, what prevented him from leaving?

Answer: The owner was staying overnight at the office.

Jimmy had pointed out that the security at the facility was pretty light, and the thief Ira was able to quickly enter the building. But just after he switched out the figurines, he heard a toilet flush. He only had time to duck under a desk before the Neff Copiers owner came out of the bathroom and headed for the couch.

He was apparently spending the night in the office after giving his wife a vacuum cleaner as a gift: "It's a very, very, expensive vacuum! It never loses suction". After calling her to see if he could come home, he ordered pizza and turned on self-help business recordings to get him through the night at the office. "Breaking Bad" fans may have recognized Ira (Frank Ross) as the owner of Vamanos Pest, the exterminating company that Walt and Jesse bought.
8. How did Jimmy help Ira escape from the Neff Copiers facility?

Answer: He broke into the owner's car and set it rolling.

When the Neff Copiers owner was out of the room getting his pizza delivery, Ira called Jimmy for help. Jimmy snuck out of the apartment while Kim was sleeping and tried to draw the owner's attention by setting off the owner's car alarm. The owner checked outside but apparently didn't think the alarm was legitimate so he turned it off and went back inside, not giving Ira an opportunity to escape. So Jimmy broke into the car and set it rolling in the parking lot.

This time the owner ran out of the building to rescue his car, and Ira was able to get out. Jimmy chased after him, and the two walked away together, like Bogey and Rains at the end of "Casablanca".
9. Juan Bolsa gave permission to Gus to find a local source for his product, but Gus was way ahead of him. Who was testing the purity of several samples of meth for Gus?

Answer: Gale Boetticher

If you were a "Breaking Bad" fan, did you yell "GALE!!!" when he appeared on screen? Gale's appearance on the show was kept under wraps; his name didn't even appear in the script to prevent leaks. In the scene, Gus was walking on the college campus while talking to Juan Bolsa on the phone. Bolsa told Gus that the Salamancas had been hit, as Gus had predicted and told Gus to try to find a local source for his product. Gus pointed out that this was against Don Eladio's rules, but Bolsa told him not to worry about it. All of this was according to Gus's plans, which is why he had Gale testing samples of meth for him.

As actor Giancarlo Esposito pointed out, "Gus has to be very careful how he manipulates Bolsa and allow Bolsa to think he thought of it".

After Bolsa gave his permission, Gus had a slight smile on his face. Gale was as dorky as ever, singing along to Tom Lehrer's "The Elements" while he worked in the lab. By the way, it turned out that Lehrer was a fan of "Breaking Bad" and gave permission for the song to be used on "Better Call Saul". Gale told Gus that the samples weren't very good and that he could do much better, but Gus told him, "You were meant for better things".
10. At the end of the episode, Kim gave Jimmy the letter that Chuck had left for him. When was the letter apparently written?

Answer: During Jimmy's mail room days at HHM

When Kim gave Jimmy the check, he didn't seem particularly upset about the small amount of money: "5k. Well I can pay off my MasterCard". Kim sat by him when he read Chuck's letter aloud while casually eating cereal. It was undated, but it was clearly written a while ago: "I want you to know how much I respect what you have made of yourself in these last few years. You have taken the opportunity I gave you in the mail room and you have run with it, becoming a valued member of the HHM family". It made no mention of his life as a lawyer, and we know what Chuck thought about Jimmy becoming a lawyer ("a chimp with a machine gun") so it had to be written back while Jimmy was in the place that Chuck wanted him: Working in the mail room where Chuck could keep tabs on him.

The letter was rather touching, especially the part about always being in Jimmy's corner, but it had no effect on Jimmy. As actor Bob Odenkirk pointed out, Chuck had callously told Jimmy that he didn't matter much to him when they last met, so Jimmy didn't believe the letter, although Jimmy did state: "Say what you want, the man could write a letter". Kim however was overcome with emotion.

She left the room, practically shutting the door in Jimmy's face. Producers Peter Gould and Melissa Bernstein pointed out that Kim seemed to be "worried about Jimmy" and that "he is not dealing with his grief and that perhaps something has broken deep down inside that she doesn't know how to fix".
