Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Homer's stocks in the power plant are up! If he sells all of his shares, how much will he make?

Answer: $25

The episode commences with Smithers washing Mr. Burns' hair. Unfortunately, Burns is not happy; he's a bit depressed with a number of missed opportunities in his life and he's contemplating selling the plant to be able to pursue the finer things in life (like wiping out countries with the stroke of a pen). Smithers accidentally lets the possibility leak out to Homer near a candy machine, but Homer doesn't really think too much about it. Shortly after, Homer gets a call from the stockbroker he never knew he had (apparently everyone in the plant gets stock if they waive some constitutional rights).

As it turns out, stock in the power plant has gone up, and his shares are worth $0.25 each. He decides to sell to receive his $25 payout.
2. What does Homer purchase with his stock earnings?

Answer: A beer

Burns Worldwide's stock continues to rise, and soon the info is making the news. marge and Bart turn to the financial channel at a point when sell-off rumours have pushed the stock all the way up to $52 per share (which would've made Homer's stocks worth $5200 in total).
Unfortunately, Homer has already sold his stock to earn $25. He immediately heads to Moe's to purchase a $20 bottle of Henry K. Duff's Private Reserve and unwittingly lets loose the fact that he could quit the job at the nuclear plant...to some German investors looking to make a move.
3. What did Lenny purchase with his stock earnings?

Answer: Plastic surgery

The family continues to watch the financial report on the news at home while considering the possibilities. With the stock closing the day at $52 per share, Marge says that they can finally have a savings account and everything can be okay from then on. Homer returns home and reveals the truth-- he didn't hold out and lost big as a result, much to everyone's shock.
Homer heads to work the next morning to find that a number of his co-workers have already splurged a bit with their winnings; Karl, for instance, has bought a new car and suit. Lenny ended up getting plastic surgery.
4. For how much money does Mr. Burns sell the power plant?

Answer: $100,000,000

On TV, Mr. Burns concedes to the fact that he's meeting with German investors to have a talk about the future of the power plant but he claims that he's only doing so to tell them no to whatever offer they can come up with. When the investors slide their offer across the table-- one hundred million dollars-- to buy out the plant, Mr. Burns grudgingly accepts the windfall.
The news comes with immediate concern from the plant's workers. Even Lenny, unable to stop smiling because of his plastic surgery, claims that it's the worst day of his life. A German flag is raised on the premises.
5. As a parting gift, Mr. Burns gives Smithers which of these?

Answer: A picture of himself with Elvis

Some of the plant's employees are called into meetings with some non-threatening German higher-ups who plan to turn things around to ensure the people of the plant are safe and secure. This, of course, starts with more rigid safety inspections and regulations and that falls into the safety inspector's (Homer's) lap. Mr. Burns starts packing his office while Smithers tries to learn some German.

The two have a touching moment when Mr. Burns leaves him a framed picture of himself with Elvis Presley. Burns is excited to move onto the next chapter of his life.
6. When Homer learns about Germany from Lisa, what is he most concerned with?

Answer: The country's work ethic

Homer seeks out Lisa's knowledge to learn a bit more about Germany in general but ends up getting worried when he discovers the country's strong work ethic. Homer mopes so much that he's unable to get to sleep and, thus, on Marge's recommendation, does a puzzle to be constructive with his time. He passes out after the first couple of pieces, only waking up when Bart finds him in the kitchen.
The sleep doesn't help-- Homer ends up at work more nervous than usual.
7. When Homer's told the phrase 'the land of chocolate', does he immediately picture Germany in its natural state?

Answer: No

Homer's called into one of his boss' offices for a 'friendly chat' about his role at the plant and doesn't manage to get across any ideas for safety...or note any specifics about his job for the past two years. When he's asked to propose one new idea, he says that he wishes that the vending machine would accept all dollar bills no matter how beat up since people like their candy.

The Germans say that they understand since they are from 'the land of chocolate'...which prompts Homer to enter a fantasy in which he travels through a land made almost entirely of sweets...for ten minutes.

After this, Homer is laid off.
8. After Mr. Burns' departure, his office is used for which of the following?

Answer: A daycare

While the Simpson family copes without an income, Mr. Burns tries to live it up with all of his spare time. Mr. Burns chats with him on the phone about the shoddy business decisions made since his departure (including the heinous use of Burns' office for a daycare). He and Smithers make plans for drinks that evening and, upon Smithers' arrival, it's apparent that Burns is losing it a little bit.
Meanwhile, at the plant, the Germans investigate the poor state of their purchase; nuclear silos are leaking, raccoons are in the equipment, and more.
9. Who is asked to retrieve Homer from the bar resulting in a song and dance in front of Moe's patrons?

Answer: Bart

Homer ends up at Moe's Tavern and Marge has to send Bart out to retrieve him...after a prank phone call. Fortunately, Moe is unable to make any connection that Bart has been pranking the bar, even after Bart somewhat explicitly says he makes such calls, and he's welcomed in. During this time, Mr. Burns and Smithers end up stopping in for their drink, finding it on their drive into town. Mr. Burns tries to be chummy, but finds an irate Homer who, waking up from his stupor, criticizes his former boss' business decisions. Burns, through this discussion, realizes that he no longer inspires fear in the common man...and that can't stand.
10. Is Homer still out a job at the end of the episode?

Answer: No

Burns, believing that he needs his plant back in order to maintain the stranglehold he has over others, decides to return to his former death trap and beg, on his knees, to have it returned. The Germans, luckily, realize that they would need another $100,000,000 just to bring it up to code, and gladly take Burns' offer...of half the original price they paid. Burns makes fun of the Germans and their personae before heading to his office and kicking the children out. Burns, deciding to keep his enemies closer, has Smithers rehire Homer, bringing things back to somewhat-normal.
