Fern became the primary suspect with motive, when detectives found her covered in Bentley's blood, knowing he had been acquitted for her violent rape. However Fern insisted she was innocent and had been on her way home.

Fern saw Bentley lying on the ground and her nurse instincts kicked in to save a life. She had no idea who it was until she got closer and checked the body's pulse. She panicked when she realized it was her rapist from her case in court. Fern explained to the detectives, the blood on her clothes transferred to her clothes. When she realized the man was dead, she rushed home and tried to get the blood off.

The case appeared to be open and shut when Fern was arrested, but upon closer inspection of the scene, the evidence seemed to leave many unanswered questions. The knives also were were small enough to be used as bullfighting swords to stab and immobilize the right anatomy in a fight. Mac described the method of death as an intentional, slow, and painful homicide.

The killer cornered their victim and then provoked them into a charge by immobilizing one muscular part at a time. When the victim was in the final stages of bleeding and paralysis, the killer stabbed him in the back and through the chest, which gave him one fatal wound to the heart.

To trace the range of the bullet without shooting off a gun, Lindsey created a homemade slingshot from tools in the first aid kit and one of Danny's bullets. The detectives noted that pain killers were not normally prescribed for stomach illness. They lured Kaplan in with the story he could file a complaint to sue the restaurant, then examined his shoulder where he got in a fight with Joanna. He was arrested for murder, which he claimed was self defense.

He claimed Joanna pulled a gun out and he shot her to protect himself.

Answer: They felt violated every time they saw a rapist freed by the judicial system.

Amber Stanton had been raped by Steve Kaplan, and Michael Bentley had raped Joanna Morgan. Both women confided in each other and became friends on subway train ride to work everyday. When Michael Bentley walked away from the rape of Fern, Amber felt raped all over again, especially since one of them had been raped by him before.

They made a pact to start punishing rapists and putting justice into their own hands. Amber's plan worked, but Joanna was murdered in the process of hers. Fern did not know anything about the plan; Amber did not count on her nurse's instincts to try save Bentley in the park.

In the end, Fern was the only winner that got to walk away free.
