Answer: Hiring a Paediatric Emergency Attending

In a previous episode, Doug mentioned to Mark that the ER needed a Paediatric Emergency Attending, as so many children were admitted there on a daily basis. In this episode it was revealed that he had taken his suggestion to the Dean of Medicine, who had circulated a memo, making it clear that the idea was up for discussion. When Kerry questioned Mark about it, she argued that the ER staff were "trained to handle anyone who" came through the door, and there was no need for such a position.

When Carol asked Carter if she could get a lift to the ER banquet with him and Anna, it was revealed that she thought the pair of them were dating. Carol explained that she thought Carter and Anna had chemistry, which is why she mistakenly thought they were dating. Carter admitted that there had been moments, but he did not want to "screw up a good friendship". This prompted Carol to call him lame, and insist that he ask Anna out.

Jeanie then explained to Scott that she and his father had discussed some new therapies, prompting Donald to mention the "Phase One chemotherapy trial. When Scott asked Jeanie what she thought about the treatment, she told him that at least it was a chance. Scott also asked her if she would stay with him if he "got the new chemo", and it was only after Jeanie agreed that he said he would go ahead with the experimental treatment.

During this episode, Mark informed Anna that he had received a call from The National Bone Marrow Registry regarding some blood that she had given. Although it turned out that her bone marrow did not match that of Donald Anspaugh's son, Scott, it did match "an out-of-state patient".

While Peter and Elizabeth were scrubbing up, Elizabeth revealed to Peter that she felt uncomfortable around Dr. Morgenstern. Although Peter considered Morgenstern to be "one of the best", Elizabeth could not forget the fact that he had "bolted out midway through a" previous procedure, claiming that "he had something in his eye". It seemed to Elizabeth that he simply froze up during the procedure, and refused to admit it.

When Carter's grandmother put a stop on one of the foundation's cheques, Carol was worried that something in the clinic had upset her. Musing that it must have been because of "some bad press", or because the clinic "gave out birth control to teens", Carol started to fill out a loan application. However she did not have to worry about money for long, as Carter's grandmother soon changed her mind and continued to fund the clinic. Indeed it seemed that it was not Carol who had angered her, but rather her grandson, Carter.

Kerry Weaver did invite Dr. Morgenstern to the ER banquet, claiming that he "was part of the family". Moreover, Morgenstern also agreed, responding that it sounded "like great fun". However he did not end up attending after all. Instead, he decided to go home, a decision which appeared to have a lot to do with the fact that on old teacher of his died on his operating table.

It was revealed during this episode that Carter's grandmother had cancelled one of the clinic's cheques, forcing Carol to find the money elsewhere. When Carter confronted his grandmother about this, he told her that it was "not fair to pull the rug right out from underneath Carol", as she had "worked very hard to make a go of" the clinic.

He also claimed that his grandmother was angry with him about Chase, and was "taking it out on the clinic" instead. Carter's grandmother then reminded him that he lived off the family trust, prompting Carter to retort that if she thought that little of him, she could keep her money.
