Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Tommy do to the church?

Answer: broke a window

Tommy and a friend were playing with slingshots trying to knock a can off the top of a street sign. Tommy's shot ended up hitting the church window instead. No one would have known about it, but the ice cream man saw Tommy running from the church and saw the broken glass.
2. What did Joanie damage in this episode?

Answer: Car

Joanie was borrowing Tom's car, but backed into a fancy car. That car happened to be owned by the man, Chuck Blair, who was trying to get Tom to change his mind on the columns Tom had written. Susan ran over Tommy's bike in the last scene of the episode and Tom's secretary fixed his typewriter (Tom's tie clip was stuck in it).
3. How much in damages did Joanie owe?

Answer: $300

The repairs to Chuck's car were going to cost $300, but he said he would forgive the debt if Joanie could convince her father to read the environmental impact report. (Tom had read the summary, but not the entire report.)
4. What was the man who fought with Tom trying to build?

Answer: marina

Tom had come out against the marina project in his columns. However, Chuck tried to convince Tom that it would be a good project for the future.
5. What did Tommy have to do in order to repay the church?

Answer: rake leaves and trim hedges

Joanie found out that Tommy had broken the church's window and convinced him to tell Tom. Tom told Tommy that he needed to go talk to Mother Superior and ask forgiveness. Mother Superior (Sister Theresa) told Tommy that the stained glass window was very valuable and had been hand-crafted by monks in Italy. Tommy offered to write the monks an apology, but Sister Theresa said that Tommy could rake leaves and trim the hedges for 3-4 weeks and the debt would be repaid.
6. Who gave Joanie the money to repay her debt?

Answer: David

David complained that no one ever stopped by to say hello, they only stopped by when they had a problem. Joanie was able to get the $300 from David - in exchange she had to tell Tom what had happened.
7. Was Joanie able to get Tom to read the environmental report?

Answer: yes

She feigned interest in the project, but Tom saw through her intentions. Joanie said that Tom was too stubborn to admit he might be wrong and left. Tom picked up the report and read it, originally to prove Chuck wrong but ended up changing his mind after all.
8. What was Nancy trying to cook when she misread teaspoons as tablespoons?

Answer: lasagna

The lasagna didn't turn out too well. Mary stated that she thought beginning cookbooks shouldn't use abbreviations as that is what tripped Nancy up.
9. How many dates did Elizabeth make for prom?

Answer: 3

Elizabeth didn't exactly say no or yes to two of the boys (she was keeping her options open) but when Mike Thompson (you know, the boy with the gold Corvette) asked her, she said yes.

All three boys ended up showing up to pick her up for prom... But when they saw each other there, the boys decided to go stag and Elizabeth was left home, grounded for the night.
10. What was Nicholas's problem at the end of the episode?

Answer: He loaned out a baseball that he had borrowed from a friend

Nicholas had borrowed a baseball from a friend and ended up lending the baseball to another friend, who lost the baseball. Elizabeth's problem at the end of the episode was that all the boys knew what happened (her making multiple dates) and now no boy would go out with her. Nancy's problem was she burned dinner and Susan had backed over Tommy's bicycle.
